TOKYO (Reuters) - They may not look cool, but knife-resistant kid's sweatshirts and coats are the latest products aimed at providing parental peace of mind in a Japan horrified by a series of gruesome attacks on children.

Wow, personally I think its sad that we feel the need to take such measures. However, the card with the chip in it that alerts the parents when the kids enter and leave school, (later in the article) is a good idea IMO.

I agree the thought that our kids have to wear slash resistnt clothing in certain locations is simply scary. But you know... there are so many professionals out there, who really want to make a difference and protect and serve us e.g. nurses, social worker, ambulance personnel and teachers who recently have bought knife resistant clothing.. We are looking into hundreds if not even thousands of professionals.

It's such as shame. These professionals deserve awards. Big ones!

Those "knife resistant" clothes are a joke. They can be stabbed through easily. All a would-be kiddie-shanker needs to do is adjust his technique slightly, and the protection they supposedly afford is nullified. This is just an excuse to whip up fear, and make a few bucks in the process.

Any claims that kevlar clothes are stab-proof are bogus. They are slash-resistant, but afford little protection against a stab. Even military grade kevlar can be stabbed through.

We need to bring back full on suits of armor. Then the big fear will be hammers and rocks.

Geez what will they think of next??

It's not the kids clothing that needs to adapt in this case...
