How could religious texts provide insight into future events?

So in other words, it's like watching a national geographic special...and the cameraman won't interfere with something like a pelican eating freshly hatched sea turtles?
Sounds silly, but it's the closest analogy I can come up with at the moment.

I don't know. It could be more complicated than that.
To take another analogy; it could be the case that a heckler goes along to a theatre with the purpose of deliberately disrupting a play, failing to realise that the playwright has already anticipated the heckling, and has incorporated it into the script. Then the heckler is doing what he wants, and doing what the playwright wants, at one and the same time.
I know this is not quite the same as the book analogy. Perhaps the book analogy was over-simplified.

I think the bible ) the older part) is really very old and is a lot of stories about things that happened a long time ago put together with a lot of warnings.
I mean, you know, there has been a city or two been destroyed by fire from the heavens, and you have been complaining ( as a religious man) about the decadent way of living of the inhabitants of that city,
The next step then is that you warn people every time they misbehave about the terrible things that can happen if you anger God. It's a prediction based on things that have happened because of reasons you don't understand. In this case a punishment God gave, but in reality was something else.

The three days of darkness etc. at the end of times. According to legend and the Sumerian tablets it has happened at some time. It must have been terrible and most people would have died.
It must have looked like the end of all times.
Hundreds maybe thousands of years parents must have told their children about it.
After a while it became something that for sure would happen again, and this time it really would be the end of times.

And maybe it will, maybe it is some kind of cycle.

But I do not think the prophets could have foretold such things. I think they were seers who were very religious.
They constantly warned people to live the way God wants them to live, because if not...

I do think there are people who have glimpses of the future. I have them myself and they have come true.
But they are just that :glimpses.

Ok this is a bit rambling. It is very difficult to put my thoughts about this on paper.

And maybe the bible is based on stories much much older, stories that come fro the survivors of a great cicilization, that was destroyed in just such an event.

And maybe they were more knowledgeable than we are now, and they knew there are cycles. Every so many years the earth changes in a very violent way.

And to our bad luck its starting to look like that we reached the end of our cycle.

But the end of the world? No way. The end of the world for many of us? Yes

So then where does that leave us all? Is this just a game to see if the subject will finally get things right and complete the level? And if in fact we fail again, they'll easily disassemble and then reassemble the board for us to play again?
