Just a couple more clips;

You can see what they are doing....

If this was a combat scenario, when they stop and hover - that is when the troops start to absail or '' fastrope '' down....

Although because it is an excercise they only stop for a short time and then lift off again. On the actual military bases, that is when they do the troops excerise's and drop from the chopper.

Black Hawks to train over Melbourne

[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/images/member/6ef1500af004.jpg[/atsimg]

Shadows from the sky will cross over Melbourne streets next week as Army Black Hawk helicopters take to the sky for routine helicopter training exercises.

From Monday to March 24, Black Hawk helicopters will fly over the city and suburban areas during the day and night
Australian Army's 6th Aviation Regiment will conduct the helicopter training operations to ensure pilots are well trained for flying in all conditions.

Advertisement: Story continues below The Department of Defence said Melbourne residents may notice some increased noise from the flights with flying to cease by 11.00 pm each day.

The training will be conducted around Melbourne and specific training activities will take place at Fort Gellibrand, Williamstown and Watsonia, Olympic Park, Fishermans Bend, Melbourne Airport, the Docklands stadium, HMAS Cerberus and the Melbourne.

Full Story

On a personal note, back when i was in the Navy, stationed at HMAS Cerberus we used to see Blackhawks flying around every day. Cerberus isnt really that far from Melbourne.

The Clearance Divers and BM's used to do ''fast ropping'' from them from about 50 metres from the ground, was an awesome sight. Seeing them fast rope down without harness's!!

Edit -

Sorry i just realised that article from The Age is back from 2009... Duh!!

Although it seems looking at Google, they seem to have similar training excersises every year around this time. Although the ADF website doesnt list and current training excersises......

ADF - Current Training Ops

But here are some recent clips from Melbourne of the BlackHawks -

Are you close to the city??

I'm in the SE of Melbourne but havent heard or seen anything tonight... although a couple days ago there was a few choppers at night flying around for a while...

I'm not sure if they were Blackhawks though, it was night and i couldnt see them.

Going back through the excersises on the ADF website and via Google etc, it seems that they always do these types of excersises this time of year.

Watch the first clip i embedded, it is courtesy of 3AW news and it has reporters on board the Blackhawks, about 1 week ago....

Here it is again;

It was uploaded on 07/03/11 - so it must relate to the same excersises. It is to do with Urban and Industrial site combat and flight training...

Nice clip, I can see my apartment lol

I haven't heard them tonight, but I have seen them for the last few weeks over the CBD.

Good to see them up there, makes you feel like the Army is never too far away.

I am in the CBD, have been for 4 years. Noisy as hell but I love it. Would never leave.

Black Hawk Helicopters are a nice change from private helicopters flying into the Crown Casino dropping off rich billionaires to party and gamble.

With so many talking about terrorist attacks and bombings as such around the world, it is kind of reassuring seeing the military show that it has some kind of presence.

When I first saw a Black Hawk driving through the Docklands last week, I couldn't help but look up and admire.

I'm just not sure why the ADF website hasnt updated it's Current ADF Exercise Page as yet???

But i am sure it will be updated in time.

Although i think i see where you are trying to go with this thread, and hey... perhaps they know something we dont
but if you look at the past few years they always run these types of urban exercises this time of year.

Yeah it's an awesome sight!!

As i said in a previous post, when i was in the Navy down at Cerberus ( Crib Point ) we would see them almost everyday flying around and doing training.

When you see 10 people absail or '' fastrope '' down with no harness, it's an amazing thing to see!!
