There should have never been this many nuclear reactors to begin with, its just asking for trouble. You are so right about it being greed. I was working on the ethanol plants when they were given such a bad wrap and people we convinced that it was them driving up food prices. In truth, only the small kernnel is used in the process and most of the grain is converted to cattle feed. Cheaply I might add. After stock prices were driven down most of the plants we built were then bought by big oil companies. They are still producing today and you notice you dont hear about it that much.

Definatly underlines the problem here.....greed. Here we have a power source proven to be a waste in terms of production and effciency. Especially as it pertains to the cost of making said materials involved safe so as to not make the whole area glow in the dark.

I fear any knock to the power grid would have tremendous effects, and with the power being out....we wouldnt really know much about what was happening until it was much too late.

As far as doom goes....we are ALL human. This constant bickering between ourselves will be our undoing....the world doesn't have to kill us off, we're doing that just fine by ourselves.

Too many spend so much time trying to figure out if they could....they don't stop to ask if they should.
