Japan's Tepco = BP

Someone please tell me how the current situation in Japan is ANY different than the situation that happened here with BP?

Everything from the government being complicit, to a cover-up, to media coverage being somewhat censored, to lives being lost... you name it, it looks like the same mess unfolding but instead of oil seeping from the ground for months, this time it's radiation.

What did we learn from BP? Why aren't those lessons being applied here?

This is getting out of control already....

The earthquake and the tsunami were unexpected natural disasters, whereas the oil spill wasn't.

That's not what I'm talking about.... read the post.

I'm talking about the handling of the crisis and how the corporations seem to be taking the lead as opposed to the government, which is in charge of the safety of the people. They should be the FIRST to respond, NOT ever the corporations. The lies... the complicit behavior... the media suspension....

WE have learned that corporations do not care about the health of the people or the planet. That the leaders of large corporations are more sociopathic than we ever would have thought previously. We have learned that governments are far slower to mettle in the affairs of corporate behemoths than they are in the day to day affairs of the citizenry.

THEY, on the other hand, have learned that stonewalling works. That The People will not be storming the gates anytime soon. That public temper burns hot and fast and fades quickly. They have learned that memories are short and (far too) easy answers are readily gobbled up so long as they are delivered by well groomed automotons on the television.

I drove past a BP station today and there were just as many cars lined up to pour money in their pockets as at any other gas station. The Gulf's ecosystem is a topic of interest to only the most dedicated of environmentalists or mordidly curious of academics.

Nothing is going to change until one of these companies screws up badly enough to end civilization as it is known for a very large number of people. Even then, this particular clusterfornication has the cover of the earthquakes and tsunami. Sure the company is incompetent and evil, but they will easily be able to sweep this aside as they focus on the natural disaster angle.
