There has been so much sugar coating and deception in just trying to get radiation levels. If anyone has a friend or family member that lives somewhere in Japan that is monitering the situation, if you have read a tweet or anything else from a social networking site re radiation levels or anyone getting radiation sickness please share. This is what is the most important as of right now.

I posted this on another 1 out of 100000 Japan threads:

Just heard from a friend in Tokyo, he says that people with money and means have been leaving since Monday. Hes currently at the airport with thousands of other people waiting for the next flight out.

He also told me that for the most part everybody's been calm and helpful but recent news of radiation levels near the plant are starting to worry a lot of people and a sense of urgency is developing. I myself don't know what the current rad levels are, but he said local news is reporting critical levels (whatever that means) within 50 kilometers of the plant.

I don't think we've even begun to see how bad this thing can ultimately get. I'm furious at the fact Obama is on ESPN talking about college brackets for March Madness while we have multiple world crisis going on right now. What a shame.

It tells me that someone is lying, no surprise to me. I just hope someone leaks the truth soon, for all the good Japanese peoples' sake.

Now, why is the whole Fukushima area still "Under Survey"? And the whole Ibaraki area is red...that's not good is it?

The Japanese government in an attempt to avoid panic is censoring the radiation levels. The radiation will effect those within 200 miles and will effect those within 50 miles the most strongly. Despite the fake maps circulating on the internet and the media hype radiation levels will only be high enough to effect Japan. The radiation will be extremely diluted if it reaches Hawaii or the western coast of the U.S. You are talking about a 5000 mile trip. If the radiation levels are higher here it will only be as high as 1/10th of a chest x-ray exposure here in the U.S. This was the same level we received from Chernobyl in 1986 which was a much worse situation. Nobody here needs to be concerned for anyone but those in Japan. Don't rush out and take Iodine pills as you will only give yourself health problems.

Yes, how supremely intelligent they are, avoiding panic, but what are the consequences? What of all those people who get killed because they didn't take this threat seriously enough? WHAT THEN?

Yes, I agree with you on that.

EDIT: And I just want to make it clear my underlined question is not directed at you Empath74, but you probably understood that.

I think we'll be fed the "no one could have predicted this would happen", "we must ensure nuclear saftey", "we must learn from Japan's mistake", and last but not least "we have to impose a nuclear power tax on all countries"

Basically....A whole bunch of bull#!

What degree is Tokyo in danger?

Looking at the map, it oddly leaves the Tokyo area blank, and the areas north and south are affected...seems strange.
