Draft Dodging -- What would you do?

I have one son who will be going into the Navy (hopefully, it's what he wants) in Sept. and my oldest son tried to get in. They scored the same on the entrance tests, showed about the same aptitude in school. My younger son had no problem...took him right in. My oldest had asthma when he was younger...it hasn't been enough of a problem for him to need medical care for a few years now (most of the time we are uninsured...so, if I can skate by using herbals, I do....in his case, they work better. Well, the Navy wanted him....the Dept. of Defense didn't though. we couldn't get them enough information about that and related problems to suit them. A few others I know have had problems also. The recruiter says that they are getting very picky about who they take in, and that the Air Force is about an impossibility. I asked him about the draft. Since hey, I can't really produce enough medical records to prove he does or doesn't have problems now. And, well, he says he wouldn't be eligible, and that there'd never be a draft...
I'm waiting to see.
Hey, the job market here stinks, and all he's doing is sitting around at the moment anyways. If they want to draft him to a community service job, fine with me....sounds better than the opportunities that are around here. But, if they think they are going to send him running around some tropical forest, they're nuts!! they can put him on that nice clean ship! where the salt water will help control that asthma, instead of having the damp, mold, spores of the forest bringing on problems he hasn't had in years.

Notwithstanding recent stories in the news media and on the Internet, Selective Service is not getting ready to conduct a draft for the U.S. Armed Forces -- either with a special skills or regular draft. Rather, the Agency remains prepared to manage a draft if and when the President and the Congress so direct. This responsibility has been ongoing since 1980 and is nothing new. Further, both the President and the Secretary of Defense have stated on more than one occasion that there is no need for a draft for the War on Terrorism or any likely contingency, such as Iraq. Additionally, the Congress has not acted on any proposed legislation to reinstate a draft. Therefore, Selective Service continues to refine its plans to be prepared as is required by law, and to register young men who are ages 18 through 25.

I volinteered in'78 no draft and no regestration then. I also was an onlly surviving son and not allowed to serve in a combat zone. Iwaived all that and served my tour. I would do so again. As for my son If he ellects not to be drafted I hope he'll stay in the US and protest by going to jail as his way of protesting rather than running away from this proplem.

We should all vote on a meeting place in Canada for when the Draft comes around. I vote somewhere in British Columbia. It will be an ATS refuge camp.

O the places to go!/ I wonder if either Canada or Mexico would allow people to hide from the draft. I suppose the Canadien border is much less gaurded than the mexican border so who know maybe Canada is the place to go

they draft you, cart you off to some industrial facility equipped with it's own dromatories, and you make autoparts, since the autoworkers are on strike and refusing to work for six bucks and hour?

Those of you who will do anything to leave the country to avoid a draft, which I don't think will happen anyway, please stay in the country instead of coming back to America.

I think it is wrong and people should have a choice to decide if they want to join and not be forced to. I joined a couple of weeks after the WTC events because I wanted to. I still don't regret it, but I know that I would not want anyone who talks about doing anything possible to not join, fighting next to me in a foxhole.

I have a family and I joined to protect them and their freedoms especially for my children when they get older. We are fortunate that we can say what we want and stand up for what we feel is right. It is just unfortunate when people take advantage of that.
