What a bunch of crap. Why should teachers have to monitor students facebook time?

Where the hell are the parents? Teachers are doing a JOB, which should allow them to have time off, a life of their own, to spend with their own families. Parents should be responsible for their children after school. When you choose to breed, you are responsible for your little angel 24/7.

Of course I want teachers and principles involved in helping to end bullying, but as I see it, this is just another excuse to make society pay for the irresponsibility of bad parents. Start making them do community service when their kids act up, and see if they dont suddenly gain some control.

So how is this any different than sanctioned stalking? If I found any teacher "Stalking" my child online, there would be hell to pay.

Here in Texas, We've already had a Teacher suspended for a comment on facebook (the comment was a vulgar joke) and a student arrested (now facing prison time at age 18) over allegations that were read on facebook (sexual assault allegations with a minor, both in HS). Facebook is becoming a way to criminally punish someone as evidence, sadly.


All of this done OUTSIDE of school, as it is blocked by our Internet Policy. All of this facebooking was done in their private lives in the comfort of their home, yet it is being used as evidence.

Kids, do not actually meet the age requirements to have a Facebook account, so they don't actually have any privacy rights there anyway. I'm generally antiauthoritarian, but in this case I don't see anything wrong with having the teachers that are responsible for their students wellbeing, monitoring the students that are on the internet during school hours.

And with education cuts, just how many students are in each teacher's classes?

Not the job of a teacher, this would take ALL of their spare time up. Plus, I would agree that it seems rather stalkerish.

This issue of stalking people on facebook, either by government, cops, employers, or teachers, is getting really disturbing. Don't people have better things to do, rather than actively looking for something to find wrong that someone might have done, said, written, or even thought?

Well where do I start... Tha statement is so dumb and pointless.

Firstly, on my kids facebook are all the Ohio, Indiana, Missouri, and Claifornia relatives... some of the Grandmothers and Great Aunts can boast stalker status. I joined facebook, and so did my husband, to "spy" on the kids. Which was unnecessary. We told them the rules: Do not put out personal information, do not post mean comments or photos, drop rude friends, and learn to make small fun talk. Anything you say goes to all your friends houses, and who knows what relative/friend of theirs is reading your information. Most of what is said on FB is useless remarks. I tried to get my friends to exchange good recipies, it was too much work. I can't tell you how many photos and videos my Aunt puts on there and requires we watch her grandchildren. I don't want to spend my free time doing that... If I leave my account on, my husband will want to spy on my friend who is his Ex Boss's wife and look at their photos. Silly. I think facebook is only important to keep in touch on a
monthly basis with friends and realities.

Teachers don't need to worry... The relatives, friends, friend's parents, the parents, siblings all watch each other...
It is so 1984 George Orwellian... Big Brother... Absolutely no privacy.

Also, people should look at themselves and their own house before peeking into their neighbor's windows. This is getting way out of hand.

Frankly, you're an idiot if you go on Facebook and start putting out all your information, and share with the world those you share company with, and with what beliefs you hold.

Your own fault. People keep saying NWO this, Orwellian that. Well Facebook wouldn't exist the way it is now, if the morons and egomaniacs didn't jump onto it like they couldn't breathe without it. That's just the way I see it. Just stop using Facebook, it's not hard. You won't be missing out on anything, believe me. You might even be smarter after doing it. It is a narcissists wet dream and an authoritarians utopia.

Teachers should avoid connecting with their students on Facebook, Twitter or other social media, the Ontario College of Teachers said Monday.

If a teacher and a student were exchanging text messages or messages on Facebook, it could be misconstrued, said Salvatori.

"The tone might become too friendly or not maintain those professional boundaries and it can become a slippery slope where it could be misconstrued as grooming behaviour," he said.

The advisory states that some members "have been found to have groomed a student for sexual purposes, using electronic messages to gradually win a student's confidence and establish an inappropriate relationship."

Now that's more sensible. Unfriending is advised for Canadian teachers.
