Bad leadership and it is up again...they might not have been the cause. I thought they blocked all networks accessing those websites, seems I was wrong...ah nobody's perfect. My bad.

Japan is in BIG trouble with the nuclear meltdown..

Part of it might be to limit exposure to unsubstantiated claims made by posters of youtube videos. All those wildly speculative claims, the fear mongering, etc.

The other part is probably to limit the ability of those living through this nightmare in Japan to document their situation in real time, so the government can "retain control" through their usual means of the MSM.

Today they'll block certain Web sites in response to emergencies, then the criteria will be smaller and smaller emergencies until eventually we have Johnny down the street stubs his toe and the government pulls UTube in response. And there will always be some new panic-inducing event to force the government's typical knee-jerk responses.

They can keep this block in place - don't know about anyone else but it is more responsive now!

The block is on military networks - what does that say?

It's not a killswitch its just simply a program like web marshall being used. Its done in lots of places in my place of work which is a government job access to the internet is restricted heavily only in the local office environment only because there was a time before i worked there when people would look up porn or do web surfing that took them away from their duties.

The sites listed make sense to block they are such high bandwidth sites leaving facebook going sure bandwidth on that would still be relatively high it wouldn't be as high as youtube. Also it would be a matter of leaving personnel access to the ability to communicate with family. Look at it this way you can spend hours watching video after video on youtube on facebook you either check a status of a friend or family member or use the chat facility on it to talk live you dont really spend hours on it unless you play the games like cityville.

Non story or conspiracy in this situation i'm afraid

These are the difficult questions that authorities must deal with.
Even the usually very orderly Japanese people might freak out if they thought they were in grave danger.

I generally agree that people deserve to know the truth however, something our governments have been horrible failures at. Now that millions of lives may be in danger it is more important than ever.

America has room for a few million Japanese, I would gladly have them as neighbors.

Sorry, it's not; not when you are on someone else's private network. When you are on someone else's private network, it is a privilege for them to provide you internet access.

This is old news and was only for those Americans stationed in Japan. Don't make a conspiracy where there isn't one. Start reading geesh.


Edit: Wow, what in the world. This was on the front page for some reason. Ah well.

Ok, I am stationed in Japan, and as of 11pm June 14th Tokyo time. YouTube, Amazon and the others that normally work, work on .mil servers. And so does ATS like always. I'd heard something about this a few weeks ago after the earthquake hit. But never saw anything actually happen. Most of the stuff on YouTube seems to be fear mongering.

Nothing else to see here... move along.
