So iodine prevents or nullifies the effects of radiation poisoning? Is that the premise? If the people that showed concern in this thread really cared you'd think that they would have explained in detail what iodine does and why people should be worried.

Are the people that want iodine now so desperately concerned about all other myriad ways people are exposed to radiation? Or are they overreacting to this incident because it is current and new? Those reactors have not experienced any meltdowns by all accounts, at least not yet.

Some will argue a coverup, obviously. But do you honestly think such a coverup is sustainable? I'm sorry, but in my opinion, too many different parties would have to be complicit in a coverup than would be logically possible for such a coverup to exist.

Hello 'Where can I buy iodine?' thread members!

I hope none of you are rushing out to buy and possibly start taking iodine pills just because of that phony Australian Radiation Services map that's been making the rounds of the internet. I received an email about this ARS radiation map today, but after I spent a couple hours investigating, I can tell you that I'm 100% certain it's fake. As soon as this poor company opens their doors Monday morning, they're gonna have about 10,000 emails.

I've got a thread about this hoax with some good advice from JRW of Survival Blogs, an oncologist who's an expert in iodine from breast cancer treatment and a radiation fallout map from Chernobyl, which shows that eastern Europeans received about 1/6000 the radiation of what this map is predicting for the western U.S., 6000 miles away.

And no, I don't trust the government or media to tell me the truth about Fukushima or anything else. Probably less than most of you...

Cool video.

I don't like being in the same room as one of those things going off.

So my best information is that A. It's going to be hard to get Iodine pills? B. The radiation from the Japanese Nuclear event will be negligable by the time it reaches us, if it reaches us.

Am I correct?

Perhaps before slamming people about what they do and don't, you should read the 'entire' thread

I'm searching online now but thought someone may know if you can get them at like Walmart or CVS or something.

You are not going to like my answer, but here goes...

The time to prepare is before disaster strikes.

Did you get that? There are no sources of supply in the commercial market, IMO. Why? Because everyone is now thinking just like you. Panic button pushed,, now I respond. In short: plan ahead!

When they get it back in stock...you can order here:

beprepared.com...

While we are on the subjrct of Prepare in Advance, have you stored ample water and food for yourself and your loved ones? When are you going to prepare for the food shortage to come? Maybe, when the grocerey stores close early for lack of shipments? When will you prepare a "bug out bag"? Maybe when the event has already happened?

Bottom line, folks is this: Got cash? Spend it now! It ain't gonna be worth crap in a few months, anyhow.

Buy:

A complete "bug out bag"
Long-term Water storage and purification systems
As much freeze-dried foods as you can store properly.
Silver coins for barter
Guns and ammo
And last but not least, a Bible-to prepare your soul.

I didn't slam anyone. I simply missed the one person that went out of their way to explain this thread...a million apologies.

I bought my case of POTASSIUM IODIDE pills around six years ago...if you cant find any and you are in a pinch you can get some organic KELP pills. You need roughly 130mg per day of Potassium Iodide.

Good luck everyone...we are going to need it.

You Can Stop Worrying About A Radiation Disaster In Japan -- Here's Why

Kelp (seaweed) tablets have Iodine in them you can buy them at the health food store

Kelp is so beneficial because it’s very rich in special minerals like iodine and selenium. These radically boost the immune system when consumed. There are also a ton of other vitamins and minerals found in kelp like Vitamin A, Calcium, Iron, Iodine, and protein.

Follow the link and read up on Potassium Iodide and it's uses, very important information to know. Always learn all you can before taking something new for your health.

Potassium iodide is used to treat overactive thyroid and to protect the thyroid gland from the effects of radiation from inhaled or swallowed radioactive iodine. It may be used before and after administration of medicine containing radioactive iodine or after accidental exposure to radioactive iodine (for example, from nuclear power plant accidents that involved release of radioactivity to the environment). It may also be used for other problems as determined by your doctor. Potassium iodide is taken by mouth. It may be taken as an oral solution, syrup, uncoated tablet, or enteric-coated delayed-release tablet. However, the delayed-release tablet form may cause serious side effects and its use is generally not recommended. Some brands of the oral solution are available without a prescription.

I bought a supply for all my people years ago. Here's some information you don't often get in one place.

1. Good against radioactive iodine only.
The thyroid / parathyroid glands absorb iodine from your diet (fish) and use it to regulate the body's metabolism, etc. IF you were exposed to radioactive thyroid, your body would absorb it, and you'd eventually get thyroid cancer, which is a bitch. The main two potential sources of radioactive iodine are a) a pre-1980s era nuclear reactor than has experienced the "China syndrome" and had a meltdown to the point that it mixed its radioactive iodine into environmental rain- or ground-water. The other source is Soviet era nuclear warheads, and modern Russian and Chinese-designed nuclear "triggers" for the H-bomb.

2. Potassium Iodide is technically a mineral.
This means that it is shelf-stable, about like chalk. So you really can must disregard the expiration date provided by the manufacturer. As long as the capsules/pills are sealed, they won't "go bad" even after decade.

3. Thyroid cancer can take 20+ years to be noticeable.
The package usually says something like "for people under 40." it is not recommended for people over 40, because they will die of other things before a thyroid cancer grows and kills them instead. Children and women who may still have kids are the only people who need to consider taking it.

4. Taking enough iodide to stop the cancer will also kill your thyroid.
Seriously. Everyone who takes the potassium iodide will seriously age their gland, and probably be diagnosed with thyroiditis in the future. On the other hand, the treatment is thyroxin, which is seriously the cheapest medication you can be prescribed. It competes with the price of actual chalk. Like, a thirty day prescription in the USA is 3 bucks a month. A lot less hassle than dying of thyroid cancer.
