Libya official flies to Egypt with Gadhafi message

news.yahoo.com

RAS LANOUF, Libya – A high-ranking member of the Libyan military flew to Cairo on Wednesday with a message for Egyptian army officials from Moammar Gadhafi, whose troops pounded opposition forces with artillery barrages and gunfire in at least two major cities...

In Cairo, a Egyptian army official told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that Maj. Gen Abdul-Rahman bin Ali al-Saiid al-Zawi, the head of Libya's logistics and supply authority, was asking to meet Egypt's military rulers.
There have been no public contacts between the Libyan regime and Egypt's ruling generals si

What is that message? Is gadhafi seeking asylum in egypt? That could be it but wouldnt a simple phone call suffice unless its something else. What would Gadhafi want out of Egypt's military rulers? He may be asking for military support and weapons, what a fool, Egypt would never help him not now not ever, but I can't believe they agreed to meet with these criminals.

Most people in government are criminals. I doubt the Egyptians are going to want to put up with having ghadafi to deal with on top of the rebel forces

More likely seeking concessions from Egyptian military leaders ensuring no intervention by them on behalf of Libyan rebels - in other words, "don't interfere, and we'll make sure the conflict doesn't spread across borders."

Egypt's Air Force and Navy arn't really busy. NATO will probably not do anything to Libya unless they get Egypt on board. I would guess Libya is trying to stop Egypt from either directly taking part or keep Egypt from letting NATO use its facilities.

We already know today that NATO isnt gonna take action. The only thing that will prompt military interference will be well nothing, really the guy bombed his people and it went to a civil war, there is absolutely nothing left for gadhafi to do that he hasnt done already. How do civil wars end anyway? By the looks of things, Gadhafi is winning. And egyptian army can never get involved, surely libya isnt that scared of Egypt.

We have no idea what NATO is going to do. We are two people on the Internet on ATS who have no access to Brussels or the Oval Office. Military action takes time. It took over a month before we made any response to 9-11. It took four months to fully react to Saddam's invasion of Kuwait. These things take time. We didn't immediately intervene in Bosnia and Kossovo. We may not do anything til May.

Libya should be scared of Egypt. Egypt has a pretty big military with the best American tanks, jets, and even ships they can buy. Egypt has the 10th largest military in the world. Libya was 53rd before it was split. I imagine its even smaller now. Consider this, Libya's pre revolt military was smaller than the US contingent in Afghanistan. The Afghan campaign only utilizes about 1/10th of the US military. Egypt's military is about 5 times larger.
