The Alternate Fuel has arrived...but it has actually been with us the ENTIRE time...

I heard this on a radio show i listen to in the morning, looked it up online and found a few links, and searched ATS and couldnt find a thread so please excuse me if someone has beaten me to this but here goes....

Gerardine Botte, a professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering at Ohio University has developed a technology to generate hydrogen fuel from urine.

Yes everyone you heard that right...our pee could very well be the next alternate fuel source or at least aide in the relief of the current resources that we are "draining" by the second each day. (sorry had to throw that in there haha) But in all seriousness...i think they are definitely onto something here.

Seriously though, the oil companies will never let this happen. They would forcibly remove everyones kidneys before they would ever let something like this happen. There have been LOTS of good (cheaper) ideas but you don't ever hear about them.

We won't ever get a good alternative energy source until someone comes up with something that people can make themselves and that the oil companies can't easily control. Just like the internet did with the phone companies.

The problem is:-

"Her system operates similarly to the electrolysis of water" which means you need power to release power.
As hydrogen is only a carrier of energy and not a source of energy, you still have to use energy to release the inherent power in the urine.

So you could say this idea is taking the piss, as it is not viable...

Yes, she does use energy to make energy but that initial energy that is used is less than what is normally used. Therefore she is coming out on top with a positive number when it comes to energy usage to make energy....thus the explanatin of ammonia and urea not holding onto their hydrogen atoms as tightly.

But seriously, this would indeed be a great solution for our problems today. I mean everyone and everything pee's. (Isn't there a book out by that name?) But if it's an alternative to gas and oil, I think they'll end up dead in the water like so many before them. (Remember the air engine?) There's too much money to be made off of gasoline as it stands today. Certain people are so greedy that they don't mind throwing the future humanity away so they can live like kings today.
