F-22 to Perform at the 2011 Sun N Fun Fly In in Lakeland Fl.

Well folks here is a chance to see the F-22 demonstrate some of its abilities. If you have never seen a F-22 then here is a great chance. I'm lucky enough to live about 3 miles from the airport and volunteer there during the fly in. Cant wait to see it again. As well the Blue Angels will be on hand for a performance.

Yes it is. Got to see it in 2006 when it made it debut out there. It did some high level stuff but nothing to close to the deck...Hopefully this year it does something closer to the deck.

when it stops in mid air, you will be impressed. I saw a pair of them flying around Myrtle Beach a year or two ago. Amazing airframe. Take lots of pictures.

So the USAF see's no problem demonstrating the F-22 flying at some civil fly in event in Florida but it turns up to a close allies international airshow (Avalon) which contains a large and relevant military and commercial theme hawking US wares, but refuses to fly it due to "security reasons" and surrounds the static display aircraft with distinctly unfriendly guards and private security with attack dogs. Not to mention that yet again they made promises they didn't keep, this time they failed to bring the B-2 at the last minute. However Im not surprised, over the last 25 years I have lost count of the number of times that the US military boasted to turn up with "X,Y,Z" aircraft to then predictably fail to show at the last minute, almost always claiming some unspecified operation reason.

Nice to see that you can rely upon your allies just as my nations leader receives a standing ovation in front of Congress for making a speech saying we are the greatest of friends.

Not sure what your point is, but airshow duty is always "if operationally capable", its not an entitlement - you have to remember than an overseas deployment to Australia for an airshow is a huge huge undertaking, even if the aircraft come from Japan.

The F-22 has flown at Farnborough, RIAT, Dubai and other foreign airshows, so whatever point I think you think you have, its not really valid.

I got to see F-22 perform at the 2008 Cleveland Air Show and it was absolutely incredible, could turn on a dime, stop in midair and fly below stall speed and still perform stunts, haven't heard a fighters afterburners that loud since the F-14 Tomcat. The most interesting part was that it wasn't a scheduled demonstration either, the announcer came over the loudspeaker we are going to get a rare treat from the Air Force because a couple F-22's are doing an escort mission nearby and recieved approval from the Air Force to perform a fly by. That fly by lasted for about 10 minutes and off in the distance about 20k feet or so you could see 4 other F-22's escorting a 747. Was a really cool experience that I'll never forget.

Well, thats great and all - no current aircraft is going to be less than 20 year old technology, simply because thats the length of time it takes to bring them to market.

The F-35 program started in 1992, so when it comes to market in 2016 it will be 24 years from conception. The Eurofighter Typhoon program started in the mid 1980s.

And no, I don't believe the rubbish about Area 51 or the Aurora being recovered alien tech or anti-gravity.

How ever old the tech may be, its still awesome to witness it fly and do things planes arent suppose to do.

I actually worked on the F-22 project years ago, specifically on it's software in the early 90's.

The AirForce is having trouble getting pilots to Re-Up after having transitioned from the F-15 to the F-22.

It has much to do with so much of the aircraft's flight controls being so automated. The plane's flight control systems are programmed to know the physical limits of the human pilot and in extreme G maneuvers actually limits the amount of G Forces it's truly capable of out of consideration for the pilot's consciousness and physical well being.

Extremely capable plane, it's major limitation are primarily US as in humans, and our physiological limitations.

And by the way, we used to do the hovering maneuver with a basic Cessna. Especially when taking passengers up for a joy ride.

You merely fly into a strong headwind and throttle back and you can sit there all day ....hovering !

For those who have never seen the F22 at an airshow, I can confirm that this is one hell of a flying machine that our cousins over the pond have created! Although I can't help but think that it was created for an era which doesn't exist anymore.

I was lucky enough to see the F22 a the International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, UK last year, and it has the ability to perform maneuvers that I have seen no other aircraft perform (the closest comparison to agility being the SU-37 Terminator).

Well I see this has already happened but I did see the F-22 last fall at the Cocoa Air Show.

It was BADDASS!

I think it will be there again this year. They had a voting system going on on what people wanted to see.

The Thunderbirds were also here and when they got here they did their fly over OVER my building, it scared the crap out of me. I ran outside to watch them practice. It was great! Their practice route was right infront of balcony over the beach! I took some video but you can't really see it all that well in the video but you can hear them!

They had the Thunderbirds at RIAT a couple of years ago, I remember them being very good! I'm lucky enough to live half an hour away from RAF Fairford, and there is usually something interesting going on there, even away from the airshow, as it's one of the main airbases that the USAF use when going into Afghanistan / Iraq. We are usually treated to the sight of B52's, and there has been a B2 there in the past too

Yea I live near the Kennedy Space Center and Patrick Air Force Base, I see some pretty cool stuff in the skies sometimes too!

I like sitting outside watching things come and go. I can't wait to see what they are going to have at the air show this year. Im going to volunteer so I can be there on site

The F22, performed at Fairford Air show in the Uk a few years ago. I live quite close by, so never go to the paid event at the weekends, but go on the Monday when all the planes leave. The F-22 didn't end up performing at the weekend due to the british summer conditions, but made a performance for all those who turned up on the Monday.

I have to say it was an amazing experience. Unlike all the other Pilots who just flew straight off the F 22 gave us an amazing performance, then once it landed, taxied all the way to where the spectators had turned up and gave a little performance of it's flaps dancing around and the pilot giving everyone a wave. It looked like something out of a sci fi film. I have some great photo's somewhere.

I live in Swindon, and went last year, where the F22 made a return in 2010, as a result of the poor weather from 2 years previous. The video I posted above, was the footage from the Saturday - I was there and it was breathtaking (The video wasn't mine, it was posted by someone else)
