Large earthquake hits northeast Japan; no damage

TOKYO - A magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit off Japan's northeastern coast Wednesday, shaking buildings hundreds of miles away in Tokyo and triggering a small tsunami. There were no immediate reports of significant damage or injuries.

Looks like the Japanese dodged a bullet as a midday earthquake 90km off the northeast coast triggered a 2 foot sunami. An aftershock was measured at 6.3 - no significant damage reported from either.

The western Pacific rim seems to be pretty active of late, and this quake could have been catastrophic.
