www.benzinga.com...

It is not just the United States that is headed for an economic collapse. The truth is that the entire world is heading for a massive economic meltdown and the people of earth need to be warned about the coming economic disaster that is going to sweep the globe.

This is a really well written and totally accurate article. For a long time certain voices have been screaming about an economic meltdown like nothing we have ever seen before.

It really can't be denied any longer that a crisis of global proportions is upon us.. Better start asking yourself right now how prepared are you? A lot of people are talking that it's highly possible we could be looking at $200 oil in no time at all.

The idea and talk of economic collapse is no longer a "movie" for me or something that is so far off it's hardly worth thinking about. Very obvious it's staring us in the face in 2011

Yeah seriously, without us who's going to invade Middle Eastern countries for oil and continue to occupy them for close to a decade under the guise that we are overthrowing evil dictators...while ignoring places where real crimes against humanity are occurring like Darfur and now Libya?

And come on, who else is gonna owe your country a trillion dollars and continue to borrow and spend?

Best part is we've got an intelligence agency whose decades of criminal behavior makes the mob look like a boys' choir...

What would you guys do without us??

Yes its indeed coming .. but we have no choice
this UNSUSTAINABLE system need to colapse ASAP
so a new improved and better system can take place with more eguality and less waste

if the government was caring about its citizens .. it would cut the military useless trillions dollars spending
and make good use of all this money

if america collapses the rest of the world will follow (at least western civilization). theres so much money invested in this country through stocks and trade, not to mention the overwhelming amount of influence america has on the world. i dont believe every where on the planet will be like the movie 'Children of Men', but a good portion of the 'civilized' world will be in flames.

Why do people immediately start talking about "If America collapses...."

Read the article. This has nothing to do with "If America collapses...."

America is collapsing but so what? So is the rest of the globe. I just realized even after this global sh*tstorm has taken place and the majority are all scrambling to try and survive there will still be Americans saying the whole damn world went to hell because America collapsed.

This crisis has nothing to do with bloody America. It's to do with a global economic model designed on infinite growth that is now colliding with the laws of physics.

There is no such thing as infinite growth and we are now watching it smash it's head into the impenetrable steel wall of a finite planet.

Americans need desperately to get over themselves.

Greetings, Nomad! Excellent thread! I don't have time to read the article, but I will tonight. I too believe that economic trouble should be expected in the near future. My family have taken a few steps (not enough!) to ensure our safety if such an event does happen. We have learned from history that when an economy crumbles, it happens VERY fast. One week bread is $3 a loaf, and the next its $300! Imagine if people can't afford to feed their families, and no other help is available. Unfortunately, I think we'd be at each other's throat's for even the most basic human necessities... Food, water, medicine, etc.

In our basement we have 150 gallons of water, and 3 months of dried foods. We also have thousands of rounds of ammunition in case we are ever forced to defend our selves. I pray that day will never come.

Having the US go bankrupt isn't such a cake walk. While many (rightfully) harp on our never-ending desire for war, money, and dominance, it should not go without mention that we send billions in aid to many countries that rely on this money solely to eat. There is more to the US than blood money.

There is a complete chart of our aid by country, broken down into both economic and military assistance.
en.wikipedia.org...

Note the following countries:

Kenya
Ethiopia
South Africa
Haiti

Just to name a few. It would be rather egotistical to only think of the countries we help for our benefit and forget those that we do help simply because they have nothing else.

For all of our faults, we do many good things for many decent countries and our collapse will certainly increase some of their suffering.

Watching it smash its head into the impenetrable steel wall of a finite planet? Very, very well-said...

Thanks for a serious dose of realism.

It seems like every time the oil prices goes up our economy takes a dive. The oil companies make any excuse to raise the cost of oil, which hurts the economy. It's all about corporate greed, and more money for their pocket books. The feds could help by stop taxing the oil, and we need to start using alternative fuel. Our economy will never fully recover, until the oil monopoly gets under control. Obama plans to tap into our oil reserves, to help stabilize the economy. By the time that happens it might be too late.

Ambient Moon I certainly agree with you that Oil Companies manipulate the price of oil and are greedy bastards no doubt.
I'm also aware that a lot of people are under the impression that the higher the oil price the better it is for Big Oil, and oil producing nations. This isn't exactly the case.
Keep in mind that high oil prices only benefit these companies and nations to a certain point. there is a threshold on oil price.

If the oil price crosses that threshold and becomes too high nations stop buying the oil because they can't afford it. That's when crashes happen and economies shut down like you seen happen in 2008 when oil hit $147 a barrel.

Too high an oil price and it destroys oil demand. Therefore hurting everyone, including Big Oil in the process...

I know people are left accusing Big Oil on rising the price with the excuse of the turmoil in North Africa and the Middle-East right now, but I believe it is more of a case of oil supplies are already stretched so far that even turmoil in a nation that exports 2% of the worlds oil, we are going to see price spikes.

And I most definitely do NOT believe the Saudi's when they say that they will accommodate by increasing their output with "all the spare capacity we have". There has been some really interesting reports and evidence leaking out over the years that Saudi Arabian oil production has actually been in serious decline and suffered from a lot of salt water damage in Gwar.

A lot more people are now waking up to this crisis that confronts us.. I hear chatter about it at work and in circles of friends that I wouldn't normally hear it from.
Most still don't worry too much because they think at the end of the day something is going to save them from all this... And it won't.

Oil has been low. Rising cost of oil doesn't create an economic dive, but it exacerbates one. The more money Americans pour into the pumps, the less we spend in other sectors.

The oil companies make any excuse to raise the cost of oil, which hurts the economy. It's all about corporate greed, and more money for their pocket books.

True enough. Their profits continue to increase.

The feds could help by stop taxing the oil, and we need to start using alternative fuel. Our economy will never fully recover, until the oil monopoly gets under control.

Alternative fuel is way too costly right now. You think oil is high -- look at your alternatives. If solar or wind power were more economical, Americans would lap it up. But they are not cheaper, they are far more costly and opening the door on carbon tax/credits will simply create another bottomless pit of expendible cash for politicians to spend on a whim -- and then come back to us and ask for more.

Obama plans to tap into our oil reserves, to help stabilize the economy. By the time that happens it might be too late.

It's not too late. You are believing the hype created to justify military action in Libya. Gas is up -- but it is far from all time highs. It was in the high $4 range only a few summers ago. Obama needs to grant the drilling permits and hold off on tapping our reserves. When gas hits $6, then we go for the reserves. But frankly I think he is intentionally eliminating our oil reserves and depleting them early in preparation for the 2012 campaign.

The chaos is Libya is being used to create oil fears in the US. The potential payoff is huge for Obama if he can convince enough people that oil is no longer attainable and "force" us to turn to alternative fuels. Remember - a Republican platform is drilling. The only way Americans will fully embrace alternative fuels is if oil is not an option but it is also my opinion that this transition is what will push us further into a socialist country.

The downfall of "America" will certainly leave ripples that are comparable to tidal waves. If for no other reason than we have the reserve currency. Because of that and the fact that we are the ultimate consumers... we will be missed.
