David Cameron says enterprise is only hope for growth

With no money left in the government coffers, the "only strategy" for growth is to get behind Britain's entrepreneurs, David Cameron has said.

In a speech to his party's spring conference, the PM declared war on the "enemies of enterprise" - and said he was on the side of "go-getters".

And he vowed 23 March's Budget would be the "most pro-growth this country has seen for a generation".

If that is true, then what the heck is going on?

According to him, entrepreneurs are the ONLY hope we have left..

"Help me obi wan... "

Relying on the people of the UK to come forward with new 'stuff' is almost a begging letter..

I'm sure there are thousands of people out there who would love to get their 'idea', 'invention', 'revolution' going but just simply can't afford it. That means that anyone currently in business with a shed load of profits behind them are the only ones to turn to.

But can we seriously see this 'growth' happen as fast it seems necessary? It would take years to build up such things in some places.

"Back small firms. Boost enterprise. Be on the side of everyone in this country who wants to create jobs, and wealth and opportunity."

Back small firms???
It was the small firms that were the backbone of this country but have all been wiped out by the 'big boys' (ie, the supermarkets, Ikea and the like)

Setting up on your own is virtually impossible with the current price of... everything... add to that the amount of red tape one has to wade through.. oh, and the rising cost of oil.

One small glimmer of hope lies in these words..

"I can announce today that we are taking on the enemies of enterprise.

"The bureaucrats in government departments who concoct those ridiculous rules and regulations that make life impossible for small firms.

"The town hall officials who take forever to make those planning decisions that can be make or break for a business - and the investment and jobs that go with it.

"The public sector procurement managers who think that the answer to everything is a big contract with a big business and who shut out millions of Britain's small and medium sized companies from a massive potential market."

But we all know what these politicians are like..

This sounds like a last ditch attempt at getting people away from the idea of having a revolution, or going on mass peaceful protests.. The problem is, action speaks far louder than words.

What else can Cameron do?

Britain is uncompetitive in the world economy. Everything is going to Asia from call centres to car manufacturers.

Imagine if all those people on dragons den were our countrys last hope to boost the economy., this has to be a bad joke, you are not going to get thousands of multi-million pounds companys spring up overnight, it would have happend already.

They cannot do anything. Too late they are all starting to realise that you have to 'make stuff' to actually be competitive. Turns out engineering has a role to play after all. Its no accident Germany is the strongest economy in Europe.

The nonsense idea that we can keep all the design jobs when all the manufacturing has gone overseas is laughable. Along with the 'services based economy' tosh. You cant really export services, so how are the people using the services getting paid... for the last 10 years its been the government, directly or indirectly.

Now that government spending is over and the legalised gambling of the commercial banking sector has imploded there is nobody to buy the services.

We are done.

No money left. Well Mr Cameron paper is not of any value and i'm sure we have our own Fort Knox somewhere. However we are led to believe we are all doomed and have to smash money into the banks and spend, spend, spend to save ourselves. Dropping all military actions in the world would easily pay off all debt and fill our coiffers three fold. Dismantling all our nuclear powerplants and converting to hydro and wind power would also drop £££'s from the debt. Maybe we could even manufacture again... oh no wait sorry Maggie flooded all our coal mines and iniciated Operation Crap Metal (buying of crap metal from abroad). Still the first two options seem good.

Same old Tory war cry I have heard all my life. If this plan had legs it could have walked us to the top of the pile by now.

The same old tired politic talk from a man that talks about getting Britain out of debt by putting its young and talented kids in debt at the start of their lives.

That punishes savers while admiring the very bankers that sent us skint. Who incentivises Britain’s workers by telling them cheap foreign workers are better than us which funnily is why they are always paid a lot less.

Whose rich have never been richer and the divide between the rich and poor never greater.

Who despises industrial action and withdrawal of labour by the workers but bows to the bankers who threaten to take the business abroad. Same action different class.

He wants a new way forward. Allow us all to have and make a future and share in the wealth generated by us, at least let those that spent a life working and saving keep the little they have and not give it to those that have more than anyone could need.

Greed of a few has killed this country, debt to feed that greed has buried us.

We are all in this together. I was on the road for two hours today and saw 4 brand spanking new Coupe Bentley’s. Some are more in it than others.

Kind of really telling how bad things are already and given the austerity an indication of how bad things will really get.. but they are to late, pushing for new wealth creation jobs/industry should have been in response to the crash in the first place, not now in 2011.. but I guess he is seeking to buy a little more time with this kind of talk.

NO money left, except for the billion we are spending on Libya and the billions we give away in foreign aid to countries with their own space programs and nuclear weapons. Funny how we can always find money for a war although it seems the NATO forces are running out of bombs, I'm sure we can find some more money for some tomahawks or some more laser guided bombs. Meanwhile our elderly have to make the choice of heating or eating.

It does when its the government who decides who's enterprise is successful.

Its time for cameron to start using the £12 billion of tax payers money he gives away in overseas aid every year on britain, that money could be spent creating jobs, lots of jobs, which would have a major positive impact on the economy.

Yes it is. Think for a second about how there are more people than ever before, and how many of them live a decent life style. It's not a zero-sum game.

I know that and you know that, but this seems as though it could be an excuse for promotoing the corporations.
