5 Ways the world could end

uk.news.yahoo.com

With strong solar flares continuing to affect communications and astronomers claiming that an asteroid is on an orbital path heading for Earth, what kind of cataclysmic events are most likely to push humans to the brink of extinction?

Really?? first NASA supposedly come out and say OK that comet thing well yeah it could hit us, and in the last few weeks, rumors in the MSM of a super large thing handing around in the Oort cloud. not to mention heightened media speculation about sun flares.

How we get this.

Is it just that we are doing a good job of advertising this stuff, People getting more paranoid? and waking up to the possibilities. Or is it another well timed leak by TPTB in order to adjust the population slowly to what is coming.

Personally I do not know. But with one thing and another. the timiing of this just seems too good!

nah. the only way the "world will end" for any of us is for us to simply die.

there will be no catastrophic event...no gigantic earthquakes, no 2012 event, no "ELE", no zombie invasion. There will be no solar event causing mass extinction.

when i die, the world will "end".

when you die, the world will "end".

Would you bet your life on it!!
I really don't think you can say that with 100% certainty, and if you did I know you would be a lie.

But actually you are wrong. Of course our sun WILL go supernova at some point in which case our home world will be destroyed killing all life on it, presuming that we don't do that first,

Ye need to stop getting stuck on the terminology mate, you should know that increasing temps up north are pouring millions of gallons of melt water into the Atlantic causing real concerns about the effect on the Atlantic conveyer, resulting in the loss of the warm weather that stops the UK from being Canada.

Maybe that is why its been so cold?

No? not a possibility?

Plus bear in mind that this is written for the average sheeple, question is. why NOW?

And that is exactly my point, why this, after all we have been reading here in the last couple of weeks, about suddenly change in the polarization of opinion by the MSM toward conspiracy theories. and the other anomolies that keep popping up recently.

I find the timing off,

It's almost like reading Conspiracy Theories for Dummies!

We have the coldest December in 100 years with a bit of snow so what? records get broken all the time. We also had a very mild February.
And on top of that we are having poor summers, so why is it all of a sudden we are all screwed due to ice melting when it's getting colder?

the annual average temp of the arctic is -55 and the antarctic -75. global warming would have to raise the temp by atleast 100 degrees to melt the ice caps.

if that were to happen we'd all be dead long before that because the world would be a desert and we'd all have died of heat stroke.

so what if global warming raised the world global temp by 1 or 2 degrees. that'll mean it would be -80 in antarctica instead of -77.

or 29'C (84'F) in cancun instead of 27'C (81'F).

there is no way anything man can do anything to the earth to raise the temp by that much.

wake up. the world can handle anything humanity can do to it.

it isn't a fragile earth.

YOu don't seem to understand the meaning of the word "average". Think of it this way: if a man stood with one foot in a bucket of ice, and the other in a bucket of hot coals, on average he would be quite comfortable.

That's not to say that mankind can do anything to raise the Earth's temperature, but the SUN sure can!

And right now in Cancun we are freezing at 77 degrees and pouring rain!

I don't think that is a dooms day article...more like taking current apocalyptic theories and debunking them one by one.

It's really poorly researched, just look at the cliche 2012 reference! Cheeky throwaway article for the non-conspiracy theorists lol.

I've often thought about the catastrophes that are predicted to destroy the planet or at least end all life on this planet. As a student of geology Ihave learned quite a bit about the natural cycles of our world. It is easy to see that Earth has been both hotter and colder that it is today. It's a natural climatic cycle that repeats over and over. Only people would be so arrogant as to assume that WE are the ones causing these cycles. Now don't get me wrong, things that we do can contribute to these cycles at times but as a poster above me said, the Earth is not really fragile on a planetary scale.

Some of you have talked about what will happen if the polar ice caps melt. Of course the sea level will rise and inundate many of our coastal cities. This will have ZERO affect on the Earth but will have a major affect on the people living in those areas. Just remember that the continents as we know them now have been underwater at various times in the past. They will be again.

So, in short, I firmly agree that the Earth will continue on long after I'm gone. Heck, long after people are probably gone.
