It's really not unusual for Army personnel to engage in psyops at random for the determined purpose of the moment.
A couple times when we were filthy, tired, aggravated, and in general really, really pissed, we'd get word a visitor was coming.
We'd set up a few along the likely approaches, and as the birds would begin their approach, the chosen few would open up with automatic weapons
spreading lots of tracers in the sky, which would quickly cause them to change their minds, and leave us the hell alone.
News crews would want to film us as we gathered for an air assault, and we had little use for the press, so to make certain they couldn't use any of
the film they shot, we'd all be bareassed waiting for the birds to get us on board, and if one or two were persistent and demanded to be taken along,
it would be suggested he leave behind anything he wanted his family to have as he was NOT coming back, under any circumstances.
Psyops.
Cuts right though the crap.
