you can listen to the seti podcast where borucki talks about 30% of stars having an earth size planet in the HZ. Right now its roughly 3% , thats 10 times less than what he predicted on the seti podcast.

the predicted results and assumptions were even more optimistic on the old kepler webpage. i think they finally stated that they would find 50 earth size planets in the HZ of sun-like stars. Lets see what happens.

yep the GHZ outer limit is contested but i like to be conservative when estimating. Ive not heard anyone contest the inner limit. Personally i think the outer limit is a bit too pessemistic

See this is where you are ignorant the results brought forward so far are only the first 4 months of Data. For a planet with a 1yr orbit at 1AU approx like earth would take 3 years to confirm and as they go farther out they will find more planets in the habitable zone based on the fact that G stars habitable zone is farther out than most of the planets they would have been able to detect in the first 4 months of Data. Also you have to factor in that the chance goes down of detecting Planets using the transit method the farther they are from their star; so they will possibly find less planets in the next public data release because of this. But when you factor in what i just said the number is actually larger than what they find

Well there goes your assertion out the window. Its only the first 4 months of Data that means the data released is just the tip of the iceberg.

Bill Borucki is Genius and you are a lonely little man for trying to disgrace the Science Principal Investigator of the Kepler mission shame on you

i know boruckis a genius the kepler telescope was his idea its my favourite nasa mission to date. Its not me giving out these numbers its the kepler team themselves so whine at them for stating things like "500 million potentially habitable planets"

i'm just not fooled by people like you saying the results are amazing when clearly they're not. Nobody predicted as low as 3% not even me!, standard minimum guess was 10% ranging up to 50%. But its not over yet.

I'm desperate for them to be better i hope they find more.

what i would say is from the results so far . We really need M stars to be good for habitable planets.

May I repeat again. You tried to avoid it in my last post because it goes against your argument. Its only the data based on the first 4 months of observation. Expect some changes to come when they confirm the Next set of data which I believe is the entire first years observation almost.

I agree with you on the Kepler mission being he best and most important mission NASA has ever done IMO. This is very interesting stuff and i advise you to keep an open mind about possibilities of planet formation because we still don't know much without alot more data and direct observation of many systems.

The only direct observations we have of planets so far are large gas giants or brown dwarf types. I think it's only like half. A dozen direct observations overall which isn't much. Let's keep open all possibilities of planet/ moon formation until we can confirm the frequency of such. Maybe certain regions will have higher chances of different sizes of planets due to more matter available. We will have to wait and see.

Like bill borucki I have high hopes for life to be abundant in the universe. I'm no religious follower. I'm strictly agnostic/atheist and cannot prove if god exists or not but I truly believe the purpose of the universe is too harbor/create life because that is maybe just the most intriguing thing to me and I think we can agree man people yearn to discover life elsewhere.

Deep down inside me I believe this is our destiny we will explore this vast universe and we shall satiate our curiosity because it is our instinct. The universe calls for us and we are privileged to be able to do this.

May all be well with you and long live earth our planet our home. The only planet we have confirmed life to exist but with advancing technology I can assure you there will be life elsewhere.

Our great mother earth so beautiful so rich and splendorous. So tranquil

yep i agree its not over yet. To be positive g type HZ is like 8 times wider than the hz around m stars so we have a better chance of planets falling into that zone maybe even 2 planets at a time. Imagine 2 earths in the same system

Where did you hear its 8 times larger habitable zone than M stars for G stars? From my information its only like twice the size. It would variate depending on the size/temperature/stability of the star as well

i can't remember but yep depends on the size of the red dwarf.

how long do you think it would take us to search the universe?

A very, very long time my friend. To reach the former Planet Pluto, it would take something like 80 years. In the scope of the universe, Pluto is suddenly very, very close.
