Yucca root would be a good alternative to soap. It lathers too! Yucca grows wild around here, so I am sure it does in most places. Have your wife google the diva cup, insert, rinse and reuse. Better than trying to dispose of "rags, sponges"... might draw predators!

In terms of feminine hygeine, surely water would be enough to keep clean.
You shouldn't really use soap in those areas anyway as it gets rid of the good bacteria it needs to prevent infection.

I suppose it really comes down to what situation you're in, I'm sure you could gather enough supplies to last you at least a short while?
Tampons are compact enough to carry at least 100 on your person without taking up too much room, especially the ones that don't have an applicator.

I would recommend the mooncup, a type of reusable cup which is cleaned in boiling water (no soap required). Great for a whole load of reasons - I used to get cystitis when I used tampons and since converting couldn't contemplating sticking the horrible things in myself...

As an alterntaive(one i don't recommend) you can run packets of contraceptives together to delay your period(obviously this is something you'd want to ask the doc about), but be warned, in the experience of myself and people I know, when you do take the break from the pills, it tends to be heavier and more painful...

by the way as a side point, anyone who thinks menstruation is dirty needs to have a rethink. A lot of women are freaked out by something totally natural through conditioning that there is something wrong with having your period, and stupid things like scented pads don't help matters.

We don't actually need anything to clean our bodies. They are designed so that over a period of 6 weeks the natural body oils keep them healthy. Yes we would smell for the 1st 6 weeks but after that the odour gets neutralised. Uncomfortable thought not to wash but actually not necessary.
As for the cycle, you can buy a *cup* that fits over the neck of the womb and just needs to be emptied every 6 hours or so.
Can't say we would like it but we would still be healthy, how often do you see gorillas take a bath and use shampoo?

Are you being sarcastic?
A women wont smell after the first six weeks?
If you are not just kidding
then that is the most BS reason/response I have heard in a while...
Sounds like an old wives tale...
Comparing/analogy of a women to gorillas for bathing?

I've never heard the story about a woman not smelling after 6 weeks, but lets face it by that point everyone would smell and you'd be accustomed to it.

We are tricked into believing that we should smell of perfume, actually the human body smell, providing you wash with water, isn't unpleasant....People will probably think I'm disgusting but what the hey...I never use deodorant, but I wash daily, and I don't smell bad.

What ever angle you want to pitch it
it's still not true that women wont stink
after 6 weeks because of some special oil
in them from neutralized women protons or whatnot...

Trust me you don't have to convince me you don't smell..
I believe you...

Okay, first off, let me say that I DID NOT want to create this thread. My wife however, wants to know. Here are the questions:

What will women do when shtf to keep clean in winter, using the creek without regular soap?
What will women do during their cycles?

Apparently my answers aren't good enough(anyone that has a wife understands this). I suggested just stocking up on bars of soap, just like we do with our other food products and whatnot and simply using them in some water source.

She wants to know if there are any alternative methods in case we don't have soap.

Any suggestions?

Me being a woman, stock up on wet naps, wet ones whatever the heck especially if you are in cold regions, stock up on hygeinic things like tampons or pads, whatever you use, and lots and lots of deoderants, I wouldn't worry about shaving if you are in a cold region. Only if you are in the south where bugs can be troublesome. In that case stock on dry shave cream (you know where water is not needed to use it) and razors. This is something that will eventually run out so be prepared to use old clothing, etc to make your own sanitary napkins eventually. Just some ideas. These can be cleaned regularly and re-used. So no, it would not draw perdators if you were on top of it.

I agree with you. LOL @ neutralized woman protons.
My point was that no one is really going to care if you are in a survival situation!

As to whether I smell...I've been told I smell of marijuana(which may or may not be a good thing), actually I don't care so much if I smell or not because thats not the sort of thing that bothers me

I guess ThePatriotNurse must have read this thread and did not advertise her site.
Will this do good?

She has some good vids, anything from what should be common sense to things not all will know.
Hope it helps.

Ok I asked my mother this question.

Only I reworded it . what if you couldn’t buy women’s hygiene products?

This is what she said. Buy terry towelling baby nappy’s or bath towels and cut them into strips fold over and place in panty’s, she also said when she was younger this is how they did it. You make an elastic waist belt with a piece of elastic at the front and back with a stocking type clasp.
It clips onto the fabric pad holding it in place.

Remembering to wash it in cold water to clean.
