I bought a new car the other day. No big deal right? Well the funny thing was,I felt so sad about my old car. I dang near cried. I felt like I was abandoning it or something. Stupid right?I mean I know it is just a machine, yet I still felt a sense of loss or something.

Its not silly, Welcome to the human race!! 99% of people have connections inanimate objects,
Most dont come right out and say it,
Its a case where you see the car as an extended part of yourself and your personality, The brain neurons connects to stuff like your emotion when you first drove that car,
A perfect example is hoarders for instance.. They fail to be able to get rid of objects around them as they connect emotionally with them, Past experience's, what a friend got them, or a reminder of some time in there life where they felt happy or sad,
So your perfectly normal!
I have an old pair of shoes that i wont get rid off, There falling apart but i just cant get rid of them, Almost feel like they have been through so much on nights out lol that its wrong to throw them in a bin.
lol

I'm guessing its a lot easier to form a stronger connection with something like a house or an automobile, too, so the associations with a car would be deeper? It probably does have soemthing to do with whatever instinct led us to domesticate and care for animals, too, like the OP pointed out.edit on 2/18/11 by silent thunder because: (no reason given)
