National Commission on BP Oil Spill Releases final report online 02/17/2011

As this is just breaking, I have not read the findings but was intrigued when I heard, "Report cites years of flaws, and that the disaster was "entirely preventable"!

Do you actually expect any "real truth" here? Personally, I expect lies and ass covering. Nothing more, nothing less.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Inasmuch as the Commission was never granted subpoena power I hope at least a modicum of understanding can be gained to avoid future disasters.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY FROM REPORT FOR THE TIME STARVED:

The Macondo blowout happened because a number of separate risk
factors, oversights, and outright mistakes combined to overwhelm the
safeguards meant to prevent such an event. The Chief Counsel‘s team
identified a number of technical risk factors in the design, execution,
and testing of the Macondo well. The team was also able to trace all of these
failures back to an overarching failure of management. Better management of
personnel, risk, and communications by BP and its contractors would almost
certainly have prevented the blowout. The Macondo disaster was not inevitable.

I'm not shocked by this, just wish the truth had come out sooner.
