DOWNLOADING per se is not illegal, it's the contents of what you download that is usually illegal, mp3's, videos, etc etc. I think that Napster was the greatest thing that happened for a lot of no name bands. I was a big user of Napster, however, when I liked something I heard, I would buy an album. The artists are screwed enough by the RIAA enough as it is, they dont need the rest of the people screwing them over. Man, talk about a bunch of crooks, you should see what kinda crap the RIAA is trying to pull

Dude... acquiring copyrighted material (music) without paying for it (so the artists make some money) is illegal. Haven't you been paying attention?

Thanks to Grokster I've bought more CD's lately than I ever have.
You're in advertising, William, don't you see this as good advertising? If it works with me it should work with others.

They let us get away with it. I do it.

They could probably stop pirating tomorrow if they really wanted to.

I dont remember off hand which artist it was, but one guy came out and specifically loaded his entire CD onto Kazaa just for the publicity.

His rationale was that the songs themselves ARE the advertisements (hence the radio play that labels like to persue, usually with illegal payola), and the main product is the CDs themselves. Therefore, he looked at loading his own CD on Kazaa as exploiting a vast advertising network, and was quite happy to see how many times his work was downloaded.

I believe this artists CD sales went up considerably after his exposure on Kazaa.

My friend used to load his songs into programs like Kazaa to get the publicity. It actually worked because he has a smalltime deal.

He stopped loading his songs into those programs now, of course.

if youre music is dope it is good advertising because people will want the whole authentic cd.

if the music is wack then people will only download it and relegate it to frat parties 10 years later, they dont deserve a record deal anyway.

Message to PeLeTi

You are running out of time.

Your Wolverine avatar (copyright 1975, Marvel Comics Group) has caught the attention of an agent, and a posse containing Stan Lee, Chris Claremont and three Marvel copyright lawyers are tracking you now.

Unless you paid for it when you uploaded it, of course. Get your receipt out quickly!

I dont know about you guys but I heard that Kazaa is meant to be on the hot list for the gov because of the questionable material that can be found in its searches , highly illegal and im not talking about breaking little copyright laws!
