Ex-Sussex County teacher admits having sexual relations with student

www.nj.com

Massaro, a former eighth-grade student-teacher at the Frankford Elementary School, was arrested March 30, 2009, and accused of having a sexual relationship with a male student who was at least 13 years old and younger than 16, according to the arrest affidavit.

In court today, Massaro admitted her victim was a 15-year-old boy, whose father reported the case to law enforcement.

According to the affidavit, Massaro admitted to having a consensual sexual relationship with the boy.

well, what do you think of this?
is the 'consensual' part even relevant? i didn't think a 15 year old boy would be able to make up his mind.
i mean come on now, she's kinda' cute, what 15 year old boy would not go for it?
seems we usually hear about the older men seducing young girls.
is your opinion that this woman deserves jail time for this?
would just a firing be more in par with the crime?
if this was a male teacher and a girl would your opinion be any different regarding punishment?

I don't see this as a moral issue, but a professional issue.

A bond of professional trust should exist between students and teachers that should not be crossed whether the student is 13 or 23.

Are you focused on teaching the class and conducting yourself with the highest standard of professional conduct or are you focused on your lover in the third row sitting at the fourth desk?

If it's consensual I don't consider it amoral, but such people should definately lose their teaching credentials and the school should be legally allowed to say they don't recomend that person for hire, in an unrelated industry if they are used as an employment reference.

There's a part of me that 'congratulates' the 15 year old for 'schtupping' his teacher (Although I haven't seen pictures...) However...

The more mature side of me is alarmed... as this obviously raises the clear question:

Is my child safe at school? Or will one of the teachers molest/sexually approach them?

Obviously relatively strict punishment is necessary to help 'ensure' other teachers do not follow suite with a light slap on the hand of a penalty.

(I have quite/ close/jntimate 'understanding' with these types of cases.)

My personal question is... How bad was this teacher's sex-life that she resorteed to praying upon 15 year olds?

Bieber-mania?

ah, yes.
i will never forget my 7th grade science teacher. she was hot.
i'd screw things up intentionally just to get her to pay more attention to me.
i always wished she'd seduce me.
even after posting this, some 35 plus years later, i picture what she looked like back then.
i don't want to know what she would look like presently.
i use to day dream about her seducing me in the back room during detention.
but, there is a big difference between daydreaming and acting on it.

Age wise.. don't care. What 15 year old boy wouldn't want easy sex like that eh? At the same time there are a few issues I do have..

1. If it was a girl being "raped" and not a boy, the teacher wouldn't see the light of day for 25+ years. Even though girls mature sexually before boys, our society is very, very biased about these crimes.

2. Huge abuse of power .. and disrupts the normal learning enviroment.

Again, this comes down to abuse of power or abuse of authority. The teacher/student relationship, the clergy relationship, the doctor/patient relationship, etc... Taking the age of consent part out of it altogether, IMO there are boundaries that should not be crossed and these are examples of those boundaries.

ETA: Ah, she was a student-teacher? The ball got dropped big-time in graduate school. Wonder if the program included ethics courses for would-be teachers? tsk tsk

I would have to agree. Having seen her photo I can say I would have loved to have been seduced by the woman at his age. At the same time however, another part of me thinks that something has to be wrong with a woman that age looking like that wanting to mess around with children (yes he is still a child).

I think despite it being consensual on the part of the boy it was most likely about control and victimizing on the side of the woman. After all a boy that young would be very easy to control with sex.

This is one of those things that leaves me always feeling a bit like riding the fence. I can see how if the boy was fine with it there is no harm done. That said though I must also look at the possibilities of ulterior motives behind from the woman's side.

I guess it is possible she was just struggling mentally with past breakups and feeling victimized herself. It does not make it right though for her to victimize another being.

I know personally someone who was railroaded on such charges and thrown out of the teaching profession.
Not all allegations are true and should be proven in a court of law not the forum of public opinion.
I agree with Proto that this is a professional issue and a trust has been broken.
What's important is that the fallout doesn't ruin lives - the students or the teachers.
A firing would be appropriate if true, perhaps even a few weeks in jail but nothing more drastic than that.

She should have been fired, yes. She should be in jail? Absolutely not. In 3 years this person can join the military and kill people. I think he can decide whether or not to have sex, as most of these people his age do...

Girls can't feel horny, only boys can. That's what we assume, right?

Amazing that people would and have gone ape # if it was a male teacher and a 15 year old girl.

Not saying you. Just saying in general.
