thanx again to everyone who commented.
it's always nice to see a dead thread brought back to life.
there was a few points made that i'd like to comment on.
instead of quoting as usual, i'm sure you'll know who you are.
concerning the ring, great idea. done, it's his. why i didn't think of passing it on is beyond me.
thanx for pointing it out. it was wrong of me to think of keeping it as a personal token.
thank you for mentioning it.
regarding the american flag, like i mentioned, he flies one along with his 82 airborne one at the house. has since he finished his tours years ago.
i know he will receive another from the marines at the funeral.
i did get a marine flag and will be at their house before they return, so i thought it would be nice to have it flying upon their return.
btw, i was delayed a day due to the fact that the body needs to be prepared before escorted back home.
i should be leaving this afternoon. will be picking up his sister in colorado so she need not travel alone.
navy gal, figured it best this way.
i also put together a photo album of some of the pics i had taken of him in the past. including the one i already mentioned.
i know the father has never seen any of them so i think it'll be something he will cherish.
i had no idea how most of this will work, and from what i've been told, most of the arrangements will actually be taken care of by the guys at the
local vfw.
i was thinking food for the reception and all kinds of stuff, but it's all handled already.
i was also informed that one of the guys from the vfw opened his motel to those attending.
will not take money for rooms to be used.
some of this generosity is quite overwhelming.
whether or not they even knew him is not even part of the equation.
thanx again, and may none of you ever need to experience anything similar to this.
