Who, REALLY, is this man we affectionately call Santa Claus?

What do we REALLY know about Santa?

Is Santa just a jolly ol�, harmless, friendly fellow?

Or is there something or someone else hiding behind jolly ol� St. Nick?

Before we look at Santa, let�s begin with some basic Bible facts:

The Bible clearly teaches a powerful, rebellious, subtle, evil being called the Devil, Lucifer or Satan.

Revelation 12:9
And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
The Bible teaches Satan rebelled against God. And Satan�s reason for rebellion is to be God. Satan�s goal is to de-throne God and persuade mankind to rebel against God

Nicholas was raised by Christian parents, but was orhaned at an early age. He used his inheritance and his considerable influence to help those in need. His kindness endeared him to everyone. He is most famous for the gifts of money he made to a suddenly impoverished family, to allow the daughters to be married rather than to be given over to prostitution. On three separate nights, he secretly left money at the house of the family. He was discovered on the third night by the father, who was sworn to secrecy.

From these deeds and other events, Saint Nicholas became known as the Patron Saint of children. On one of his journeys, the ship in which he was traveling was delivered from a storm through his prayers, and he is thus regarded as the patron saint of mariners. Russian Orthodox Christians became so devoted to Saint Nicholas that he is regarded also as the Patron Saint of Russia.

St. Nicholas is one of the most widely venerated saints in all Christiandom. The honour extended to him includes not only the Orthodox and Roman Catholics, but Protestant denominations as well. He is honoured even by Muslims. In the weekly liturgical cycle of the Orthodox Church, in which each day of the week is dedicated to the Saviour and the different orders of heavenly and earthly sanctity, only three persons are singled out by name: the Mother of God, John the Forerunner and St. Nicholas. This latter is quite extraordinary given that he left neither theological works nor other writings. Rather, the Church sees in him the personification of the shepherd, the one who par excellenceis both defender and intercessor.
He was born of eminent and wealthy parents, and instructed in thhe spiritual life by his uncle Nicholas, bishop of Patara. He later became a monk at New Sion Monastery. On the death of his parents, he distributed all the property he inherited to the poor, keeping nothing back for himself. As a priest of Patara, he was known for his charitable works, fulfilling the Lord's words: "Let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth." (St. Matthew 6:3). Though it was his wish to lead the life of a solitary in silence, he was made the Bishop of Myra in the province of Lykia. Continuing his charitable works, he also endured persecution being imprisoned during the persecutions of Diocletian and Maximian. He was presnet at the First Ecumenical Council in Nicaea in 325.

He became known as a champion of justice after having twice saved men from undeserved sentences of death, and after having delivered people from slavery by providing the necessary payments for their deliverance
The story of Santa Claus is inextricable from Saint Nicholas of Myra. The former derives from the latter, with heavy doses of local cultural influence, particularly from the Protestant countries of Northern Europe, where veneration of saints was abolished. The elfish quality was added in America.

any way......just thought id write back to confirm that ""yes"" there was a St Nicholas living in tose times........
And ""yes"" today there is so much deliberate lies put out that no one knows what or who to beleive........

(im not having a go at any one!!!)

Must say I'd never heard the theory that Santa is Satan before! Wonder if that is where the other term for the devil comes from - the Old Nick?

People, like satan, santa isn't real. He is an imaginary character used to make kids behave. "If you kids act naughty, you will get coal" and "If you do this, you going to hell". Santa is the kid version of satan that parents use to keep kids in line.

Hell, for that matter, the early Christians got the concept of Hell, all wrong too...
