(CNN) -- A voluntary recall was issued Friday for 1.7 million video baby monitors, after federal regulators probed reports that two babies had died in the past 11 months after being strangled by electrical cords.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued the announcement in conjunction with Summer Infant, the Woonsocket, Rhode Island, company behind the monitors, which are made in China and sold at retailers nationwide.

What would you folks, think about this.

If those people thought up this plan and scheme,
to sue deep pocket corporations
set the babies up to get strangled on the
baby monitors (or) by actually strangling their own babies
themselves with the cord.
You know the people would win in civil court,
against the corporation.
They could win the case and get
millions.
Their set for life, got rid of the crying babies
they couldn't handle maybe some shady lawyers involved.
They will be going to abuhdabi
take a load of cruises, a nice house, real estate/Property
The *good life* so to say,
just for their babies life..
People have killed babies in worser ways.

Sorry to say this but if the babies were as dumb as the parents then this would be Darwin in action.

Nobody should EVER have a power chord, rope, miniblind draw cord, or any other type of rope like objects around an infant who is in a barred bed that is three feet off the floor.

They don't need to recall the monitors, They need a recall on the parents.

People are getting stupider. They really are.

Regardless of if these were accidents or something along the line of your conspiracy theory, its obviously not the manufacturers fault and just some sue happy piece of trash lawyers and their clients.

As for the theory, I don't really see how a baby can get strangled from a single cord plugged into the wall unless they crawled over it with their head, the turned around again wrapping it around the neck, and then turned around again for another wrap. ..... who knows... maybe your theory holds something.

No, this is not what happened. These children died because the cords where a danger to them. Babies are like that, you can't have anything that is a hazard to them, from pierced earings, to pillows, to anything that will cause death and suffocation, they can't lift their heads and bodies and move to safety.

So they're recalling the monitors because the parents were careless with the cords. Yeah, that makes sense.

This is stupid, why would any parent leave a cord within reach of their child. I know we leave our monitor well out of reach.
This reminds me when the Mclaren strollers got recalled in the U.S because they were chopping fingers off.
It was only a recall in the U.S mind you. Babies in the rest of the world still had their fingers attached.
Maybe there is something in the water over there dumbing people down after all.

Woiw. Dumbest recall ever. What's next, a recall on kitchen knives because if you leave one near the crib a baby can cut itself with it?

something is wrong with this! would it not be apparent to the parents, that there are obvious dangers. if there are chords wallowing about, i'm pretty sure that most people in their right mind would notice that and do something.

First, this doesn't immediately appear to be a case where the parents are suing for anything. That is an assumption on your part.

The reason for the voluntary "recall" on the cord issue appears to be that the label and instructions didn't warn about the cord hazard. That's all the manufacturer has agreed to do, and this is a good thing. The Consumer Product Safety Commission noted that while some baby monitors of this type do come with warning labels and instructions, in this particular manufacturer failed to include them.

Yes, most baby monitors do and have always had cords. But this could just as easily been a lamp, a radio, or a vaporizer that was on a table to close to the baby. Or even the crib being too close to an uncovered electrical socket that a baby can stick a finger in. Pictures hanging on the wall or other things on a table to close to the crib can fall and hurt or kill a baby too. Should all of these all have labels and instructions too? Not always feasible, but in this case, there is precedent and it can't hurt to make sure warnings are included, particularly since this is a baby product that we know is going to be close to the crib. Of note here is that babies have strangled themselves with cords from window blinds, and blinds now do have warning labels on them for this reason.

So one might ask, hell why don't we just label the babies? Well, we sort of do, but not everyone always thinks or gets the message.

That the CPSC and related news articles mention China is a bit interesting too. This might underscore a flaw in the end-to-end manufacturing process, where the company may not have provided detailed enough requirements and specifications to the manufacturing/packing plant in China.

These overseas manufacturers will do only and exactly what you tell them to do. Nothing more and nothing less, down to and including the level of detail of the label and instructions.

This is also relevant in the other finding mentioned in the article about the exploding or overheating batteries. They will use cheap crap batteries to save "costs" unless specifically instructed to do otherwise. You get what you pay for.

Should the parents have known better? Probably. But people make mistakes—sometimes tragic ones. Anyway, if a minor change to a label and instructions can serve as an extra reminder, and if it can be fixed on future products and "recalled" on existing products to make people more aware, what's the harm?

This may sound harsh but they are recalling 2 million monitors because two parents were idiots when putting an electrical cord near a baby?! WOW!

This is NOT the companies fault, this is the fault of the parents. Who puts a cord near a baby like that so they can suffocate? Nobody! From what I have seen baby monitors are cordless or the ones with cords are on a desk or dresser in the room and hey guess what, you can still hear the baby..So WHY was one so close to these babies heads that they died from being caught up in it?

People in this world need to stop blaming others for their mistakes and problems and look at their own actions.
