If anyone has caught it and I'm sure they have Obama is now proposing to have provisions added to the budget to bailout the states that are having a hard time and let the rest of the states raise taxes in order to cover the rear ends of the states that are broke. Anybody else have a problem with this or is it just me? Also it's been proposed and mentioned before that the idea is being tossed around to let the states start to file bankruptcy which would allow them to ignore the already retired people who are supposed to be receiving a state pension. Man only the government could screw something up this monumentally. Everyone contact your local representative or congressperson and let them know how strongly opposed you are to this nonsense, if you feel the same way I do that is.

I would rather them bail out the states rather than corporations. Wonder if there are plans to bail out individual citizens.

It's ridiculous. States with extremely high taxes like Illinois, California, and New York are all going bankrupt. How terrible do you have to be at fiscal responsibility for this to happen?

that wouldnt really work because the individual person is who is paying for all the bailouts anyway, lol
they can keep bailing out everything all they want, when the U.S is bankrupt guess who isn't going to give them a bailout??? CHINA!!!

Each state ALREADY receives aid from the government. Some get more and some get less, depending on the population of that state. Like NY has a far greater number of residents than Iowa, meaning larger numbers of unemployment, retired and welfare. But OUR taxes are MUCH higher than Iowa as it is. Taxes are based on population, schools and the number of businesses in that state.

That's exactly the problem I have with any type of bailout. It's like wow you had this much money at the beginning of the year you knew what your budget was it doesn't take some guy from MIT to figure this stuff out. Let some of these drowning morons take some responsibility. And to reply to another poster I agree I would rather them bail out states than corporations however they will now have done both and how much more can we take as far as printing money and adding to the national debt before we start to see some semblance of hyper inflation????? I personally don't want to have to have a wheelbarrow full of money to buy a loaf of bread. Do you?

This is just wrong.
The fed has no business in bailing out the States. This is a major conflict of interests.

It will only help in getting rid of States Rights.

It was just a matter of time. Many states are looking at mounting union retirement pensions and healthcare costs that will bankrupt them. Bunch of idiots. They promise these folks all this money for their service and don't prepare to pay em when the times up. What did they think they would all die?

The spending insanity is rolling downhill and will have to thump somewhere. If folks from say Kansas are going to have to raise taxes to pay for the insanity going on in California that could be the final straw. What gets me is where is the money going to come from to bail out the states?? WE ARE BROKE AS A NATION. I guess print it until you can't afford the ink is the new motto that will be on the dollar.

I dont understand the logic in bailing out states at this point... If we as a country are so far in the debt hole, then where the hell is this money coming from for these bailouts? Surely the states that arent in debt right now can't come up with enough money to supplement the ones that are, so where does this money come from? You can't just keep making money that you don't have. The dollar has absolutely no value anymore, if you look on a dollar bill it says next to Washington, "This note is legal tender for all debts, public and private."... They never used to be printed like that.

We are a Union...this is what happens...States help each other out.

Look at this table which shows the States that get the most Federal Aid compared to what they pay in taxes...look at where IL, CA, and NY...they are in the BOTTOM TEN on the list.

www.taxfoundation.org...

So why shouldn't they get some extra help right now when they are hurting since they haven't been getting the extra help all along???

Bailouts or bankruptcy or let them sink—take your pick. What's going to do the greater harm or the greater good?

There is no extra help. Why should others pay for California allowing illegals run wild, billions in stem cell money to stick it to Bush or so they though, and numbers of other lunatic green fiasco's and God knows what else those kooks dream up. As for Illinois it's been run by crooks why should we bail out the mafia??
