Could be, I donno. I think most people do it because it's just the thing to do at a rock concert. I don't think it's a symbol of anything they strongly believe in.

Maiden rocks!!! Period. Started listening to them in High school during the 80's and have listening ever since.

They are now the undisputed most famous Heavy Metal band in the World!!!

This is simply because they are amazing musicians, great song writers and they held true to there style, showing history for how it is. Disgusting!!!!..... for the most part but they will show you how to find that untamed power in all of us. Many football teams like to listen to maiden right before a game. Yes, you too can feel the power.....

i reckon "rockin" the horns is as much the way to go as christianity, i see george bush rocking the horns and jenna bush, prince william and berlusconi all rocking the horns, and i see the church hiding the its hideous past, priests fiddling with the children, and the countless amount of secrets they keep,,

i most certainly wont be barking up those tree's. i know that the battle between good and evil is not balenced right now, and i think when the time comes, the rock artists, the rap stars, the major corps, the world leaders will have a choice to make!!!! reep what you sow people, i believe in unity and peace, im anti-monetary and anit anti-economy. i dont actually give two shades wether people think im right or wrong in my beleif that such symbols should be chosen more carefully. Iron maiden are anti-establishment you say, and ive seen some good references to back it,

you cant deny that some people have sold out, so i dont think you can deny that everyone may have sold out, eminem sang "mosh" just to cash in on a bad situation, and that song in itself was very anti-establishment but im not sure em has the people's best interest at heart?

UP THE IRONS !

Seriously,as said before maiden uses symbolism as the wrapper to the music.Shiny, interesting and could get you in trouble with your puritanical parents ( ie pre-1990's).

Say any more about iron maiden being tools of the Illuminati, and Eddie will eat you.

I definitely have to agree with my Metal Counterparts. The fact is, most Metal is actually against the whole SATAN themes, and the ones that are into the SATAN themes are just doing so out of mockery, or to get a rise out of people. Metal by nature is against oppression, anti-NWO, it stands for freedom. Iron Maiden are most definitely not Satanists lol, and definitely not in collusion with the NWO.
I read somewhere a long time ago, that the Power Metal Sub-genre (Iron Maiden played a big part in creating that sub genre) of Metal is actually oppressed by the NWO and the Mainstream for their anti NWO beliefs and for their empowering lyrics, that include history and a ton of knowledge, not sure if it was on this very site back when I was lurker. But take for example this awesome Power metal band from Germany called Gamma Ray hehe

GOD you are an IDIOT!
I bet you have never listened to Iron Maiden's music before, because they love symbology and use it ONLY FOR AESTHETIC EFFECT. People like you see symbology and immediately think that whoever/whatever is using it is EVIL and part of the SATANIC ILLUMINATI NEW WORLD ORDER.
You need to grow up. Iron Maiden is just a metal band. A freakin' amazing metal band, might I add.

And this post tells me that you haven't read any of the thread at all. I heard it really helps to understand a discussion.

Offstage, Iron Maiden are fairly "normal" guys.
Shades of Tipper Gore and the PMRC. Nonsense like this means I can't buy CD's at Walmart without the swear words bleeped out. If Iron Maiden makes you quiver with fear: don't listen to it. Those guys don't support the alleged NWO or Illuminati agendas any more than Jesus Christ will appear in my driveway tomorrow morning. They play hard rock with a mystical edge and evolve with the strangeness of the times. 25 years ago it was devil worship, today the high strangeness that makes people cringe is the Illuminati/NWO nonsense. They're capitalizing on the weirdness of the times. Nothing more, nothing less. Smart marketing, smart business.

I`m a big fan of the band . I think perhaps one or more members are low ranking FreeMasons due to much of the lyrical content of some of their songs . But Satanist , nah ,

I thought it was established that the 'devil horns' (in mainstream metal anyway) spawned from superstitious Italian(?) hand symbols supposed to ward off evil/bad luck.

That's exactly what it was and Dio introduced it to rock and metal and now misinformed people think it's evil

Ok so you are looking for an NWO slant related to Iron Maiden.........

how about these lyrics? can you find something related to TPTB in these?

Covered in sinners and dripping with guilt,
Making you money from slime and from filth...
Parading your bellies in ivory towers,
Investing our lives in your schemes and your powers

You've got to watch them - Be quick or be dead,
Snake eyes in heaven, the beast in your head--!
You've got to watch them - Be quick or be dead,
Snake eyes in heaven, the thief in your head...!
Be quick!
Or be dead!
Be quick! (quick)
Or be DEAD! (dead)

See... what's ruling all our lives...
See... who's pulling strings...
See... what's ruling all our lives
See who holds the strings...!
I bet you won't fall on your face,
Your belly will hold you in place--
..
The serpent is crawling inside of your ear,
He says you must vote for what you want to hear!
Don't matter what's wrong as long as you're alright!
So pull yourself stupid, rob yourself blind!!

You've got to watch them - Be quick or be dead,
Snake eyes in heaven, the thief in your head--!
You've got to watch them - Be quick or be dead,
Snake eyes in heaven, the thieves in your head...
Be quick!
Or be dead!
Be quick! (quick!)(quick!) (quick!)
Or be DEAD! (dead!) (dead!) (dead!)

..

You've got to watch them - Be quick or be dead,
Snake eyes in heaven, the thieves in your head
You've got to watch them - Be quick or be dead,
Snake eyes in heaven, the thieves in your head...!!
Be quick!
Or be dead!
BE QUICK!

Ronnie James Dio (R.I.P.) said his aunt or grandmother (I forget) told him the "horns" could be used to defend against the "Evil Eye" or to send it.

I like nothing more than seeing hundreds of thousands of people rocking the horns at a Maiden show !!!

Nice to see most of the points I would have made already done. I will add a priest that uses Iron Maiden's lyrics in his sermons, a slightly altered clip from Flight 666.

I'm a rocker, have been since before I was born. I'm also a collector, of sorts, of those bands I dig. Maiden happens to be one of them.

One can learn loads of interesting things on a variety of subjects from the lyrics of bands like Maiden and Rush. Two bands that are in complete control of what they put out, packaging and all, and incidentally are two of the biggest bands on the planet. They have done it with very little corporate support or should I say in spite of the fact that they have been shunned by radio and media. It's all about the music and it shows, which is why Maiden could do a tour of the world, literally, on their own plane, with their singer piloting it, even playing places like "the ass of the world" in Costa Rica or a police state like Colombia. I don't recall the actual count but it was over 40,000 miles IIRC in a month and a half. No one, ever, has done that. Period.

Powerslave

Into the abyss I'll fall the eye of Horus
Into the eyes of the night watching me go
Green is the cat's eye that glows in this temple
Enter the risen Osiris risen again

Tell me, why I had to be a powerslave?
I don't wanna die, I'm a God, why can't I live on?
When the life giver dies, all around is laid to waste
And in my last hour, I'm a slave to the power of death

When I was living this lie, fear was my game
People would worship and fall drop to their knees
So bring me the blood and red wine for the one to succeed me
For he is a man and a God and he will die too

Tell me, why I had to be a powerslave?
I don't wanna die, I'm a God, why can't I live on?
When the life giver dies, all around is laid to waste
And in my last hour, I'm a slave to the power of death

Now I am cold, but a ghost lives in my veins
Silent the terror that reigned marbled in stone
A shell of a man God preserved a thousand ages
But open the gates of my Hell and I'll strike from the grave

Tell me, why I had to be a powerslave?
I don't wanna die, I'm a God, why can't I live on?
When the life giver dies, all around is laid to waste
And in my last hour, I'm a slave to the power of death
Slave to the power of death
Slave to the power of death

Notice the "symbolism" of the cover. Eddie is the devil's puppetmaster, which is a joke as Eddie isn't real. The lyrics to the title track CLEARLY state the song is about a dream. That's all, plain and simple. Ok, they are guilty of a bit of marketing, titling the album and song as such but any clear headed thinking person should be able to read these lyrics and see what the hell they are talking about.

The Number Of The Beast

Woe to you, oh earth and sea
For the Devil sends the beast with wrath
Because he knows the time is short
Let him who hath understanding
Reckon the number of the beast
For it is a human number
Its number is six hundred and sixty six

I left alone, my mind was blank, I needed time to think
To get the memories from my mind
What did I see? Can I believe that what I saw
That night was real and not just fantasy?

Just what I saw in my old dreams
Were they reflections of my warped mind staring back at me
'Cause in my dreams, it's always there
The evil face that twists my mind and brings me to despair

Night was black, was no use holding back
'Cause I just had to see, was someone watching me?
In the mist, dark figures move and twist
Was all this for real or just some kind of Hell?

6 6 6, the number of the beast
Hell and fire was spawned to be released

Torches blazed and sacred chants were praised
As they start to cry, hands held to the sky
In the night, the fires are burning bright
The ritual has begun, Satan's work is done

6 6 6, the number of the beast
Sacrifice is going on tonight

This can't go on, I must inform the law
Can this still be real, or just some crazy dream?
But I feel drawn towards the chanting hordes
Seem to mesmerize, can't avoid their eyes

6 6 6, the number of the beast
6 6 6, the one for you and me

I'm coming back, I will return
And I'll possess your body, and I'll make you burn
I have the fire, I have the force
I have the power to make my evil take its course

So there ya have it, a crash course on Maiden. Remember the old adage don't judge the book by it's cover or in this case from a crappy clip from a movie you haven't even watched. If you had, you would not have started up a thread like this. I'd suggest taking a afternoon and reading some of their lyrics as they are readily available. You would finds they are much different than the Satanists they are thought to be by the ignorant few.

For further research I would suggest Queensryche's Operation:Mindcrime - not OM:2 as it sucks ass - as it's a great album over twenty years old and still relevant. Bands like Megadeth and Gamma Ray, as have already been mentioned, have many tunes regarding anti-NWO themes. Helloween has a bunch of "concept albums" that are strong with Christian themes. Rush, well, I've learned a great deal over the years from Neil's lyrics.

Ok, it's not the same album as the song which follows, but it's the only picture disc I've ever seen from Rush, hence all I have, so deal with it.

Rush - Witch Hunt

The night is black
Without a moon
The air is thick and still
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torch lit hill

Features distorted in the flickering light
The faces are twisted and grotesque
Silent and stern in the sweltering night
The mob moves like demons possessed
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right
Confident their ways are best

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill

They say there are strangers who threaten us
In our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves

Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand...

Above - Aces High. Below - Back Side with a pic title "I Shot The Focke", with the plane spinning down as it plays. Kinda cool.
