Victoria, B.C Glowing Sphere UFO

So a reporter from onlineislandnews went outside and saw a glowing bright spherical orb off in the distance. He started filming and soon noticed it was moving closer. It was so bright that it did not appear to be a flare or a helicopter. It hovered there for many minutes before hovering over the city itself while most the town slept. There were other witnesses.

Good video!

Interesting that it goes behind some trees and you can still see the glow reflected by the clouds or fog around it.

Lets see if we can pinpoint the location, direction and weather at that date and time.
See if there is any military in the region etc.

We can rule out what it is not to try to identify this.

of course, we will have the usual folks chiming in with off the cuff explanations without proof.
I hope we can keep the "nothing to see, move along" posts to a minimum. But I doubt it.

I dont think it was a flare yet, but this needs to be confirmed by careful analysis of the circumstances.

very interesting footage would be nice for other eye witnesses or footage to be known .. if it exists.. definately one to watch ..

From what I hear, not sure how valid the source is....we should all be able to see one of thes before the end of FEB. There are rumors of a large multi city event planned very very soon...

And I have to give it a bit of credit just on the increase in ufo activity since the fall of 2010, and especially 2011 so far...

Just sparked a memory for me, i was in So Cal for awhile last year and I saw lights like this for several days over LA....at the time I saw a site saying they were aliens sending enlightening signals to the masses....oh and the times I saw them as 2-5 am....i ork from home so alot of times I am up into the later hours to see what most 9-5 ers nvr have a chance...seriously interesting stuff....END TIMES programming indeed. Hope they are sending harmonics and not disonance..

think at the time the more esoteric explanation is these are signs of the maitreya returning....interesting idea

As the footage lasts only a couple of minutes it could be a Chinese Lantern. It's the correct colour and flickers just like a lantern.

Howcome when you zoom in on this it does not appear like a chinese lantern?

Sorry but you cannot see in enough detail to say either way. However, it is the correct colour and flickers just like one as I said.

On the other hand, if there was a single object up there for as long as that longer video, it must be something other than a lantern. It looks like it is moving slowly enough to be a planet but appears too bright.

Well, these are some of the most compelling videos I have seen. Not to say I am convinced it's a UFO in the alien sense...but it is something.

Could these be 'fire balls'? Some sort of anomally associated with the magnetosphere or space debris?

These videos are very similar to what I saw Jan 21, this year. The only real difference is that I would sometimes see these red and blue lights that appeared to come from the main light. They would come on and off, and only lasted a couple of minutes, and only happened a couple of times. But I viewed the object for probably around 45 minutes or so. I made this image in MS Paint (haha) to show my husband later on. Honestly, I didn't even try to take pictures or anything. I guess I didn't really expect to tell a lot of people about it. I've had this emotional turmoil regarding this whole alien subject my whole life, mostly just gives me huge anxiety! I'm 25 years old, and up until this year, have never witnessed anything in person that would lead to an "ALIENS!" explanation. But since 2011, I've seen two things, on two seperate occasions, that have just led me to an "omgwtf!" feeling. This MS Paint was my second sighting of....whatever these things are.

After watching both vids and the secondary source video posted by westcoast.
This object does indeed have all of the hallmarks of a Chinese lantern.
(A very good one, I might add)

It should be noted in the HWY 1 portion of the second video, the narrator was very descriptive
of his observation of "steam" rising from the object. Also his notation of the precise time was
important. 9:30pm PST was within moments of the object "going out".

If we review the weather conditions at 9:21 from the above source, we see that rain had just started.
Considering that such lanterns are fueled by flame. We see that at the time the rain started, steam was
clearly visible rising and a few moments later was out.

Chinese lantern is my humble conclusion.

Excellent work. Where do you get your weather data? That would be very usefule to our investigations.

By the way, I believe we have had quite a few incidents of UFOs in BC over the past two years which are quite possibly chinese lanterns. Lots in the Fraser Valley and some on the island.

I've seen something kinda like this before. I was driving and a white sphere came from the distance in my side mirror and engulfed my car within seconds. It was gone just as fast as it came, however, I can't tell if it probed me lol. I can't think of a good reason it got so close to me, it was like it was in my head the light got so close. but it all happened very quickly.

Has anyone run the video here through filters to see if its a hoax? Just a thought if someone has time to do that.
My opinion is that it seems genuine on the face of it. I wish I had video to show what i experienced - it would just blow anyone away.

Yes, there is military in the area. We have Naval base to the south in Esquimalt, and at the airport, close to this siting, is a helicopter squadron (Seakings...) and up in Comox, about 219 Km north of Victoria there is an Airforce base. In terms of weather, Victoria has different weather than Vancouver, most times Vancouver gets the rain when the cloud pass over Victoria from the ocean (or west).

I don't think it was anything military but if this was spotted on radar, the quick reaction F-18s would be here in about 15-20 minutes...
