A senior US official tells the Reuters news agency that the violence on the streets of Cairo has triggered a debate within President Mubarak's inner circle about whether he needs to do more to meet the demands of the protesters.

Violent clashes are continuing in Cairo as supporters of the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak, lay siege to Tahrir Square, where thousands of anti-government protesters have been demanding he step down immediately.

I dont think that he will, the U.S. has great influence in this situation.

Egypts military has been trained in the U.S. for the last 30 years,
they have U.S. technology, U.S. aid.

Humitarians are watching from around the world...

I think if he tries, it could result in a military coup or military intervention.

Their military doesn't look like it would sit by and watch security forces massacre civilians.

Wow it's just a warning. That means all options are on the table if they don't comply. This could turn in to a blood bath so easily. If I were there I wouldn't be.

This is sickening IMHO,todays events have confirmed my worst fears-Mubarak moves his goon/police/intel/secret squads off the streets for a good rest and some training...then today, when the protesters are getting very tired and hungry the goons attack.
He wants to stay in power,if that means this million stone bloody battle we have seen today, then he's fine with that.
In fact, that was the strategy all along I think.

What a complete evil turd Mubarak is IMO.

The army have let these pro mubrak goons in with all sorts of weapons-I saw that live on the news today.
Sounds like the Army have been told to behave and start supporting the regime IMO.
Sad state of affairs for the folks over there,my heart goes out to those protesters.

Actually no Egypt is not a colony...no matter whether you were serious....

The story goes that

an Israeli army chief of general staff once came to his headquarters and announced that he had some good news and some bad news. The bad news was that

Egypt now has top-of-the-line, sophisticated U.S. weaponry.

The good news was … that Egypt has top-of-the-line, sophisticated U.S. weaponry.

American military support – and the spare parts to keep the equipment running -- comes with conditions attached, including that they aren’t used against Washington’s Israeli ally.

www.themedialine.org...

There are many key assets at stake, The suez canal, and mainly oil.

The officer corps of Egypt's powerful military has been educated at defense colleges in the United States for 30 years. The Egyptian armed forces have about 1,000 American M1A1 Abrams tanks, which the United States allows to be built on Egyptian soil. Egypt permits the American military to stage major operations from its bases and has always guaranteed the Americans passage through the Suez Canal.

The relationship between the Egyptian and American militaries is, in fact, so close that it was no surprise Friday to find two dozen senior Egyptian military officials at the Pentagon, halfway through an annual week of meetings, lunches and dinners with their American counterparts.

There is someone posting on the Dugway lockdown thread, claiming to have inside information, who has implied/ said the missing material was going to be used in Egypt. It's in the latter pages. Just an fyi.

OMFG!! LOL!!! mubarek's goons are charging the mobs on horseback!! it looks like some kinda retarded cavalry! this is getting quite hillarious now. now they're throwing molotov cocktails from the roofs. the military is just standing around letting them all go at it.

Tell me about it wingsfan..

I just seen a guy on a camel charge a crowd of about 600 with a big stick in his hand..

And guess what happened, said crowd punched him off that camel then proceeded to stop him for 2 minutes. Now what else do you think is gonna happen if you storm a crowd of 600+ on a camel brandishing a stick!

What's that eyeroll for? (You know this a conspiracy site). A lot of people would be dead. Keeping my opinion of the post out of it- just that it had been said. Wishing the Egyptians a better life and peace asap, preferably without foreign intrigue.
