'Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity': Many agents are only managing one out of three from the bureau mot

It is supposed to be the nation’s elite police force, working to the highest standards of all. But hundreds of FBI agents each year are in fact having to be disciplined for serious breaches of misconduct, secret files have revealed.

In the past three years more than 1,000 FBI employees have been found guilty of inappropriate behaviour, including one agent who had a sexual relationship with a source.Another agent used FBI databases to get personal details about celebrities he thought were ‘hot’. And one male member of staff shared confidential information with his news reporter girlfriend, and then threatened to release a sex tape the two had made unless she kept it quiet.

The litany of misconduct was detailed in confidential summaries of disciplinary rulings obtained by CNN. The disclosure threatens to undermine the FBI’s reputation for, as its own motto points out, ‘Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity’.

The bureau could also face harsh criticism over its refusal to fire any of those caught out, even though the offences were of a grave nature. Among the toughest punishments was for the agent who had the seven-month sexual relationship with a source. He was suspended for 40 days.

In another case a supervisor who viewed pornography in his office during work hours, while 'sexually satisfying himself' (so the file states) got a 35-day suspension.

I guess the fear of getting in trouble-being booted out of the FBI isn't too much concern for most. Looks like it is a Have a good time place to work.

No wonder our country is getting fleeced from every direction. I think the FBI has gotten way to political & even further away from it's main goal and priorities. Trust me I know.

Shame.

I just saw this report on CNN, it's a shame really.

All of those people would be fired if I had top position at the FBI.

Well consider this, that some of the more higher light agents get set up by the evil agents so that they can go down...

I mean REALLY...

This kind of crap happens far too often and I with a conspiracy angle see it as the perfect way to set up and illuminate opposing forces...

This is not to say it does not happen, hell they could be working on perverted cases, researching evidence, but then they get caught in the web themselves.

Perhaps some have misused it, yes, but I have my doubts.

Sure it's a shame, but its just a mirror of society as a whole.

Where a lot of people work, you get peoples behavior, the good and the bad.

Absolute power corrupts and people always go for it.

You know, our employees are human, as we all are. We all make mistakes. So, our discipline is intended to reflect that. ‘We understand that employees can make mistakes, will make mistakes. When appropriate, we will decide to remove an employee. '[When we believe that an employee can be rehabilitated and should be given a second chance, we do that.’

Once again, we have the disgusting double standard of law enforcement bureaus, whether local, state, or federal. They (agents) "made a mistake," they are "only human," they can be "rehabilitated."

Now tell me the same logic would apply to any ordinary citizens accused of something or of violating company standards. Probable, but extremely unlikely. Anyone else would be fired and/or, if laws broken, prosecuted as harshly as possible.

Makes me sick, the special consideration government officials and public servants seem to get, right on up to the executive branch.

Bull i bet they torture people all there lifes and enjoy it. These people care not about innocence only killing and torturing.

This is a stereotypical development, common among the institutions rife with political elitism.

I disagree that it is in any way 'normal' considering the size and makeup of the organization.

The FBI is guilty of the basest (some might say criminal) exclusionary practices; racial, cultural, political... you name it.

The Feebies (as I refer to them) are nearly anything but what their massive and effective PR machine tells us they are... although they certainly should be. The problem is not institutional... it's in the leadership and their incestuous obsessions with power and control across all government agencies.

Sadly, this potentially country-saving body of law enforcement personnel have allowed themselves to believe the crap their bosses spew to the masses... because to face up to the hypocritical standards and practices means termination and black-balling in the security industry (or banishment to a field site in Greenland). That kind of bravery they seem to lack ..... some can back me up here

One or two bad apples cannot and do not represent the majority. On the off chance you may think i am associated to them, i guess i should point that i am as associated to them as fire and water.

I think the bigger problem for the FBI will be looked at and how they handle employee problems from here on in.

Okay, you got us on this one type of attitude. They just aren't going to do it openly.

With all the screening they do of the applicants, you would think they would find a little more classy cadets.

Something there they are missing in the pre-hire stages.

On a more serious note though, it's a real shame albeit expected. A lot of people who have acces to special databases use it for the wrong purposes.

You should not assume what you read or hear, there are those who do away with individuals that simply are not made public due to resources, but they are put away. :-) . But rest assured, its a real hell hole when diving into this field.
