The Wahhabi movement, the religious movement in Saudi Arabia dating back to the 18th century and with roots even well before that, was joined in the ’50s and ’60s by immigration into Saudi Arabia by Islamists, or a more modern strife of essentially the same ideology, many of them coming from Egypt. The way we won World War II fighting for Churchill’s and Roosevelt’s Atlantic Charter and the way we won World War III fighting for the noble ideas I think best expressed by President Reagan, but also very importantly at the beginning by President Truman, that this was not a war of us against them. It was not a war of countries. It was a war of freedom against tyranny. We have to convince the people of the Middle East that we are on their side, as we convinced Lech Walesa and Vaclav Havel and Andrei Sakharov that we were on their side.
This will take time. It will be difficult. But I think we need to say to both the terrorists and the dictators and also to the autocrats who from time to time are friendly with us, that we know, we understand we are going to make you nervous.
We want you to be nervous. We want you to realize now for the fourth time in 100 years, this country is on the march and we are on the side of those whom you most fear, your own people.

. .WASHINGTON, April 17— The Director of Central Intelligence, R. James Woolsey, made a secret visit to Egypt this week in which President Hosni Mubarak warned of the dangers posed by Iran-backed Islamic extremists in the Middle East, American officials said today.

The officials described the trip as part of an orientation tour that took Mr. Woolsey to Israel, Italy and other countries, and said it had been kept secret only for security reasons. But they made clear that Mr. Mubarak had raised specific concerns about Iran's role in promoting Islamic violence against Egypt's secular Government and elsewhere in the region.

Among the topics of discussion were Iran's role in establishing terrorist training camps in the Sudan that Cairo believes are being used as bases for attacks against officials, tourists and other targets in Egypt, the officials said. They said Mr. Woolsey and Mr. Mubarak also discussed concerns that the Sudan might allow Teheran to use a Sudanese port as a naval base, a prospect that Cairo has warned could lead to war between Egypt and Iran.

The Clinton Administration last month denounced Iran as an "international outlaw," and Government experts have warned in strong terms that Teheran appears to have widened its efforts to use terrorism to expand Islamic influence in the region.

It was unclear to what extent the discussions between the two leaders focused on the World Trade Center bombing, in which some of the main suspects are believed to have ties to extremist Egyptian groups. A central suspect in the case, Mahmud Abouhalima, was arrested in Egypt after fleeing there shortly after the bombing, and the American authorities have been eager to learn all they can about what Mr. Abouhalima told the Egyptian authorities while in custody there.

Mr. Woolsey and Mr. Mubarak discussed that case earlier this month during a visit to Washington by the Egyptian leader, who said at the time that the United States might have prevented the bombing had it heeded Cairo's warnings about Islamic extremists in the United States. In the meeting this week, Mr. Mubarak was said to have raised similarly specific warnings about the support Iran has provided to the Islamic organizations responsible for the Egyptian attacks.

United States Government officials have said there is evidence that Iran has helped train members of those groups, both at the Sudanese camps and at others in Lebanon. But they have said it is not yet clear that Teheran has assumed more direct sponsorship of the terrorist campaign.

You see I believe we will end up being invited in or this could very well be the flash point. Israel invented the Modern Day Pre-emptive Strike. US will follow through. Are we going to Sudan? Or are we going to Iran? Or are we going global as in World War? Note: That Sudan might allow Iran uses of its ports as Naval Bases.
