This is pretty cool

London Luton Airport has become the first airport in the world to introduce holographic announcers.

The project is part of a series of initiatives aimed at simplifying the security process at the airport.

Custom designed for London Luton Airport, the holograms, in both male and female versions, are technically referred to as tensator virtual assistants.

Waste of money, They may aswell just have a screen with a video playing?

Overhyped, Still a good find, Just seems like a bit of a waste IMO.

Im not really sure how this simplifies anything. It actually complicates things, no? Because now they will have to spend more money on these holograms rather than just having the same spokesperson on a TV screen.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
If it ain't complicated, don't try to simplify it by adding some fancy holograms to it.

Nevertheless, that is a pretty cool find.

Never say Never
I'm sure the Adult Entertainment industry will pickup the technology if the Airports find it useless

Not necessarily. Currently it might seem expensive being a prototype or the first airport to use such technology. Once it become a bit cheaper, it will be worthwhile such as the automated customer service option for several industries. I'm sure there will be companies to come up with cool variants of this technology
I can only imagine the different variants that are possible. Think about it...Celebrities, Adult Industry, Interractive Features, Psychotherapy, Psychiatrists..etc etc.Think if you had your own celebrity news cast person to read you news or narrate anything you want based on the unit connected to the internet such as news or other subjects of interest (not music or movies certainly).

I doubt if this really is a hologram. I'd have to be there to know what it really looks like. It appears to be a flat screen which presents a stereoscopic image without the need for special glasses. I doubt if the image is suspended in mid air so you can walk around it, like in some sci-fi movies. There are currently several types of stereographic imaging competing for the market. Unfortunately, they are all billed as holographic instead of adopting a list different names for different technologies.

Marketers like to use the term "holographic" to sell anything that is stereographic. A real hologram has resolution at the wavelength of the laser light in which it is viewed, and it has parallax when you shift your viewpoint up or down as well as sideways.

I agree that this is not added security. It's just an excuse to divert €1,000,000 from the airport's security budget, instead of hiring better qualified security personnel and dogs.

O yeah. I can imagine alright. Thats all I can do is imagine and nothing else since I'm married and have 2 kids.

But the way I look at it is that every technology has their good and bad implications in the society. It has to start with a theory, concept, proof of concept, prototype, production, support and eventually product improvization. Certainly it will improve to become a day to day technology possibly used in various aspects of our lives. Think about a unattended monorail at airports or unattended flights without a captain (if UCAV or UAV technology is to be used for commercial airplanes), unattended cabs or buses etc etc. Just to mentally provide the human factor, it can be useful including Space Travels.
