Anxious' Israel backs Egypt regime

english.aljazeera.net

Israel has called on the United States and Europe to curb their criticism of president Hosni Mubarak "in a bid to preserve stability in Egypt" and the wider Middle East, an Israeli newspaper reports.

The Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Monday that the foreign ministry, in an urgent special cable, instructed its ambassadors to key countries, to "stress ... the importance of Egypt's stability".
Increasingly, president Mubarak has been isolated by swift and at times harsh criticism from Wester

This hits the nail firmly on the head. This is why there is not a lot of support for the revolution. Isreal does not want it and why....
because they think if it falls it will take stability from the middle east.
There disragard for the people of palastine has bought stability issues to the middle east. Not people invoking the right of civil disoendiance and democracy. It seems the big powers are stacke against the people. On tuesday however 1 million will march in cairo... good luck to them...
The reason this is getting Isreals goat up is because they nee egypt to help with the blockading of palastine.

Good luck to them indeed. Actually, I think they started losing Egypt too, back about the time they lost Turkey. This became clearer during the sanctioning of Iran by the UN and clearer still. when Egypt started helping Iran get around the sanctions along with some others, whether this came from Mubarak himself or the government that got ousted by him almost immediately is the questions to ask here.

Israel also doesn't appear to view NATO troops too fondly, and should the canal become destabilized that area will most likely be crawling with them.

Israel, USA and the UK must stay silent and keep their traps shut. This Egyptian Revolution is not forever and it will run it's natural course.

These 3 nations can no longer go around bullying other nations and trying to control them while allowing their masters to loot other nation's financial institutions and injecting their fat business corporations (especially the big pharma & Monsanto), military, media etc. People of sick of it and not just in the Middle East.

The phrase you are looking for is:

The devil you know, beats the devil you dont.

In Israels ase they have a peace treaty with Egypt. Remove that Government and you have no idea whats going to replace it. It could be anything from a truely Democratic Government, or one in sheeps clothing with ties to Iran or where ever.

All Politics are local.

Also, again, Israel is not solely responsbile for the plight of the Palestinian people. They had a chance at a Palistinian State when Israel was created by the UK, and the Arab Governments refused it. The tit for tat game Hamas / Hezbullah play with Israel is a continous cycle. Until the people take a stand in both areas and throw their leaders out, it wont stop.

Constantly blaming Israel while completely ignoring actions on the other side is part of the problem.

Besides Israel has a right to be nervous. Several times in their history they have had to fight for survival when arab countries invaded.

Arab countries invaded Israel? Recently? As in in modern times?

Another article of interest...

With a deep investment in the status quo, Israel is watching what a senior official calls "an earthquake in the Middle East" with growing concern. The official says the Jewish state has faith that the security apparatus of its most formidable Arab neighbor, Egypt, can suppress the street demonstrations that threaten the dictatorial rule of President Hosni Mubarak. The harder question is what comes next. Read more: www.time.com...

Oh, hell yeah.

Google the "6 day war".

Israel certainly would feel threatened by this. Egypt attacked them with Jordan and Syria.

I think you're meaning "Google the Yom Kippur War." 'Cause it was Egypt getting attacked by Israel in 1967, not Egypt attacking Israel.

Israel certainly would feel threatened by this. Egypt was one of a few countries who attacked them.

Well, it's not as if nobody feels threatened by Israel... Ask Lebanon.

Telling words. The "security apparatus" is there to protect the people not to protect a corrupt government or the corporations trying to run them.

Weren't there many reports out of Egypt that said that may be exactly what was happening? The people cheered the military and the police and the jets. That's the way to win them over. They are after all your own countrymen and countrywomen. Fighting them doesn't make sense...because who wouldn't fight back if pushed.

Thanks. I was almost sure I'd remember Israel being invaded. But I do miss stuff now and then.

It appears you're right!

I have always thought Israel was invaded, and that started it.
