Rioters destroy two mummies in Egyptian Museum in Cairo

Rioters broke into Cairo's famous Egyptian Museum yesterday and destroyed two mummies, Reuters reports.

The head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, Zahi Hawass, got on state television to say that a crowd tried to break into the museum but were fought off by tourist police and regular citizens. While the battle went in front of the entrances, some other rioters broke in through the roof and destroyed the mummies. The ticket office was also ransacked...

In 2003 when the US invaded Iraq, the Iraqi Museum of Antiquities was robbed. Left untouched were jewels and treasures worth millions (some were priceless). Untouched. However, some few *artifacts* and stone tablets and statues were taken. Why? Some believe that the invasion was an enormous smoke-screen for the true goal: the acquisition of these rare artifacts by TPTB (The Powers That Be). There was no other way for the private collectors (global elite) to get these artifacts. Segue to 8 years later...

Instead of invasion, efforts at *destabilization* finally came to fruition. "Rioters" broke through and ransacked and destroyed mummies. Already, reports of professional mercenaries looting stone tablets and other "less valuable" *artifacts* are coming from people involved in the clean-up, investigation and friends of workers and civilians who helped form the human chain to keep out looters.

Apparently... there are some very wealthy individuals out there who will stop at nothing to get their hands on rare artifacts. Or, maybe, they just used this OPPORTUNITY to steal what they could not otherwise negotiate.

No matter what, the fact that mummies were decapitated (as reports indicate) and otherwise defaced and destroyed, is appaling. Since when does economic crisis grant permission to destroy HISTORY? Perhaps this is why the Egyptians should not be allowed to reclaim treasures gained by European explorers? ARE THEY RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO BE THE TRUSTEES OF THEIR OWN HISTORY?

From what has happened, apparently they are not. If a country cannot protect its national treasures, then it should not petition to have recovered treasures returned to it, less it all be lost to riots, looters and others.
