Flotilla raid 'regrettable' but legal, Israeli commission finds

www.cnn.com

Jerusalem (CNN) -- Israel's deadly raid on an aid flotilla that attempted to run the blockade of Gaza was "regrettable" but legal under international law, an independent Israeli commission reported Sunday.

The commission, led by retired judge Yaakov Turkel, found that Israeli commandos "acted professionally and in a measured manner in the face of unanticipated violence" when they seized the Gaza-bound aid ship Mavi Marmara. Members of the Turkish relief group IHH "were direct participants in hostilities" who attacked the Israeli troops, the commission reported.

Well no surprise there.

Haven't heard of this issue for quite some time now, but I didn't expect Israel to delcare that it acted illegaly.

There's still quie a bit of debate as to what happened even in this article.

"It is simply unfeasible to claim that, for example, the two men shot immediately to the left and right of me were gunned down in some act of self-defense," Ovenden, a representative of the British aid group Viva Palestina, said in a written statement. "They were shot from above. No Israeli commando was in sight of us when the bullets rang out."

Thoughts ATS?

attacking aid ships on international waters and murdering over 9 unarmed aid workers is justifiable and legal under international law, but 40+ years of military occupation, murder, starvation, theft and humiliations is somehow considered legal by the israeli government.

i'd like to see their international law guide, they seem to have missed the 100's if not 1000's of violations they have committed over the years.

israel is the last country on earth that can claim international law as a defence.

Considering the contraband, and the two alternative ports of delivery that were intentionally ignored, I'd say the flotilla raid was entirely legal too.

If you have nothing to hide, there's an Egyptian port that the contents will be transported from, as well as an Israeli port where offloading can likewise be inspected and transported without cost.

It's when you're bringing in more arms and explosives that you have to attempt a shore run.

And that's not going to happen.

"The Israeli government and the IDF took the investigation seriously and offered their full cooperation, showing Israel's commitment to transparency and military accountability under the law," Foxman said, referring to the Israeli Defence Force.

Yep, full cooperation..NO soldiers were allowed to be interviewed and they ignored the differing scenario told by the activists..

Exactly HOW did they work out what happened???

Everyone knows the only reason Israel stole GAZA is because they found Natural Gas off it's coast. So they kicked the Palestinians out and put their offshore gas rigs on the GAZA coast.

YHWH said it's not nice to steal. This is why Israel is blockading the Gaza Coast. To continue their stealing of the natural gas.

YHWH will deal with them.
