Order of the Golden Circle

I was listening to Coast to Coast last night and some guy called in about a robbery that occurred at a civil war armory archive. Some kind of pistol was stolen with an engraving from the Order of the Golden Circle. The host just said that was interesting and that they had spoken many times on this organization.

I was curious if anyone knew what this organization was about. And why they would be on something like Coast to Coast.

Senrak, thanks for the link. It seems harmless, but on the radio show a civil war pistol was given to a civil war officer and was engraved with the name of the Order of the Golden Circle. There is nearly 50 years difference between the founding of the women's auxiliary and the civil war story. Maybe someone else know's something. I'm trying to find some kind of news story about the gun being stolen from the museum, like the caller said, but I haven't found anything just yet.

Are you sure it wasn't Knights of the Golden Circle. There was such a group...several members of which later helped establish the Ku Klux Klan. ...sounds more like them.

It might have been. I'm sure the guy said Order of the Golden Circle, but it was an old man, he may have forgot the exact wording and such. It does make sense that the KKK may be involved with something relating to the civil war. They may have handed out pistols instead of medals.

if memory serves me , the KKK was born near the end of the Civil War. Started
by Nathan Forest (?) and several other Confederate Officers, originally
called the KUKLOSor Cucklos sp? Clan The gathering of the circle or something similar. then disbanded a few years later. then reformed later in its present
KKK form.
