Just like the rest of the world South Africa isn’t immune to the paranormal. The unexplained do happen here and I’d like to share it with
you….
Firstly I’d like to introduce you to a little character going by the name of Tokoloshe or Tikoloshe.
Probably one of the most infamous characters in South Africa. The Tokoloshe or Hili (from the Xhosa word utyreeci ukujamaal) found it’s origins from
Zulu mythology and has been scaring kids and adults for years now. It’s said that the Tokoloshe is an evil spirit who was created by shaman with the
soul purpose of causing mischief, particularly to school children. Mostly described as being small, gremlin like it’s known to take on many
forms.
It’s a story mainly told to young children by their parents to scare them a little but from my own experience I have noticed some of the black
ladies/gents tend to stack their beds up on bricks and do not like the idea of sleeping on the floor. This is probably done because the Tokoloshe is
known to bite your toes in when you are sleeping. Also, it’s known to rape woman and sports fairly sized member. One that has been told it carries
over his shoulder.
Now for the flying DutchMan
It was Captain Hendrik van der Decken who refused to stay in port after off loading some cargo at the Cape of Good Hope (Cape town) even after his
crew begged him to stay. A storm had broken out making the conditions on sea extremely dangerous but Hendrik was determined to head back out.
Apparently Hendrik was busy cursing God for the foul weather when all of a sudden the sea calmed down. A ghost appeared on the ship and, of course,
Hendrik saw it fit to fire at it. This didn’t go unpunished…. Poor Hendrik lost and arm and the ship disappeared into the storm.
Though just is one of many stories of the flying Dutchman. Seems its origins are a bit uncertain but I’ll put in some links to who ever is
interested in reading up on it.

A lot people have claimed to have seen the ship. Not that anyone would go near it.

The Ghost of Uniondale or The Hitchhiking Ghost
A young couple, Maria Charlotte Roux and G.M. Pretorius, were driving down the Barandas Willowmore road, 12th April 1968, when they had a car
accident. Maria was in the back when her fiance lost control of the car. The car overturned and she was killed.
I have to add some say it was on a motorcycle not in a car. This was also the storie I was told but others say it was in a car.
Apparently the first reported sighting was on Easter Weekend 1976 and since then many other sightings have been reported.
It’s said that when u give her a lift she disappears a few kilometres down the road. Some have also reported that car doors start opening, laughter,
a chill in the air, a smell of apple blossom accompanying her when u pick her up, leaving the smell of flowers behind once she disappears.
These are just three of the more famous stories in S.A. I’m pretty sure there is a whole lot more out there.
