THE FANTASTIC 50's - When Fads, Fun and Flying Saucers Ruled the World

I have vague memories from the '50s when I was a teenager. But none of my memories include reports of flying saucers probably because I didn't read newspapers, we didn't have a TV, and the Spanish radio stations I listened to didn't mention such things. It wasn't until 1957 when I was in the Air Force stationed in Morocco that I was introduced to flying saucers via Desmond Leslie's and George Adamski's book "Flying Saucers Have Landed" which was loaned to me by an Air Force captain. It was in the 1960s that flying saucers/UFOs really took off in the news and there were lectures all over NYC.

The music from the '50s was great but I don't think that flying saucers really "ruled" the world, Elvis did! Enjoy.

Great times, huh?
I've been told I would have loved to live then. Must have been awesome to wittness and be apart of that type of history, yeah? I would love to read more about the sights of those machines and reports of them, too ??

Funny you should say that; my sister had polio. She's now 74 and was never able to bend her leg. In NYC being black was not the same as being black in the South which I found out about when I was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base (formerly Abilene AFB) and my black friend was not allowed to dine with me and I saw separate entrances for blacks and whites at movie houses. It was totally mind blowing for a boy from New York City. Racism was new to me and those sights and experiences will always be vivid memories. Of course, in the Base itself there was no racism.

And I didn't hear about flying saucers from 1955 to 1957. If you didn't hear about flying saucers while in the Air Force, except for the 1956 hit song "THE FLYING SAUCER" by Buchanan and Goodman, then the above advertisement is not 100% factual.
