13 eh? I'm out!

Btw, some Saint-Emilion Grand Cru matures poorly and some Beaujolais Nouveau is excellent.

Why do I even bother with noobs?

Because some of the so called NOOBs have a hole lot more going for them (in threads and posts) than some.
If you dont like a OP dont respond to it or flag it although a lot of TROLLS have been running around doing drive by threads and posts, here one day and banned in 5 posts. IMHO I didnt notice as much until the facebook deal but for the Above Networks inc. to be a inc. it has to take the good with the bad. It will calm down eventually and ATS will have some good NOOBS until the next head line breaker and it will start over again. Keep your powder dry OP

Funny how it's up to me to both read and respond to a thread. If I see a thread that makes my eyes roll, I don't bother opening it.

When I opened this thread and saw the OP, THAT is when I rolled my eyes.

If a topic doesn't interest you, ignore it. There may be others who are interested in a topic started by someone new to the site.

I do get what you are getting at. Some of the threads I have seen in the past few weeks are just absolute crap.

you usually post good/insightful comments so I'm not going to jump on the "kevinunkown is a troll or hypocrite bandwagon" and ignore that going by some of your recent threads, you've been afflicted by the "Nabobs of Negativity".

speaking for myself as a LTL and a noob; one of the factors that led me to sign up was precisely was a large recent influx of trolling and potential emissaries of TCOTBIP.[The Custodians of the Black Iron Prison]

some of the noobs here are people who are looking for answers and have no idea how deep the rabbit hole(s) are,
or have never heard of some of the really far-out subjects that most of us have at least a passing acquaintance with.

there are some who've been messed up and pushing them away/ridiculing them is not a wise thing,as a recently former member has shown.

and of course some of the "noobs" [as well as some who've been here awhile] are emissaries of TCOTBIP.

no thumbs up or down button!!! why make it easier for the trolls from cybercommand to push a thread out of sight.

hope you weren't not referring to me

yes its a hassle clearing the wheat from the chaff but if we don't exercise our minds then they will stagnate
all part and parcel of the CT life

Give the OP a break, he is just venting and ranting and at least it's in the right forum.

However the OP needs to realise that i bet there has been people who didnt agree with his threads and it will happen again as it does to all of us.

In hignsight there are threads i have posted which probably were a waste of time or a dead end and im sure thats happened to many of us here.

Some threads and authors will always have a whacked sense of reality and some just get it wrong from time to time or get caught up in the moment.

I do wanna add i have noticed over the past 3 or 4 months that threads have been getting more aggresive and members becoming very angry and abbusive. Although i am still fairly new to ATS compared to many others and i do realise that there will always be disagreement here, i have noticed more aggresion lately.

You know, I have been reading your "rants" against those who do not fit your ideals, and your idea of a normal person. This is the whole idea of ATS, I believe, to attract those whom would be treated with disdain in other forums. ATS is open to everyone, you can believe in what you wish, and talk about what you want to. You will not find the "Norm" here, nor will you find the Hive Mentality a lot of forums seem to have. If you do not like what we post, please....there are a lot of internet message boards out there.

Am I considered new? Lol...

Here's the deal; when the main boards (recent topics) start getting redundant or just plain whack, I revert to lurking very old threads (i.e. from years ago) there are a lot of really cool, well researched topics that I've learned a ton from so perhaps an idea to counter your rising blood pressure when the (recent topics board) starts getting to you, look into the ATS past for awhile, you might learn something.

I'm a noob who joined because the posts I read were more along the lines of a good debate. The atmosphere was civil and the thread proceeded with dignity and respect on both sides.

I see the threads that have so infuriated our OP but not all these *outlandish* ideas come with a recent ATS membership date.

I had hoped to learn from the amazing minds I see at work here...now I'm hesitant to pose a question or voice an opinion. Who among us likes to be viewed as ignorant.

Man boobies. Heh.

The problem here seems to be mostly a consequence of sloppy terminology.
Noobs aren't the culprit; threads deemed idiotic are.

I like dumb stuff. It can be entertaining and mentally relaxing.
Other times, board rage may begin to boil up within me when certain fanatical posters
won't stop shrilly swearing they know the Secret of the Source of the Essence of Everything
and that I MUST believe every word they've ever written or be doomed.

But it seems boorish to try to ban those with which thy doth not agree.

And remember: golden oldies used to be brand new songs.

Still, one question remains unanswered:
How does iridium fit into all this?

Being a Noob is not related to how recently someone joined, its more about a state of mind.

The Noob mind, will always be in a state of perpetual Noobness. One month later, a year, 5 years, there will be no change. The Noob mind finds pleasure in its own Noobwaves and operates on a frequency of 1 000 000 Noobahertz.

We need to look deeper and pose some questions.

Having established the nature of the Noob mind, does it have anything to offer?

The Noob mind has nothing to offer.

Therefore the mind is Noob.

The Noob mind does however form a tiny part of a global mind. In the human psyche its the metaphorical equivalent of landfill sites on Earth. All that rubbish has to go somewhere.

In order for the rubbish to go somewhere, there must be a Noob mind.

There is rubbish,

Therefore there is a Noob mind.

We need to remember that at one stage or another we are all newbs to this site. But perhaps not new to the subject matter.

Seriously, i have been interested in so many things since my ealry teens. UFO's, Roswell, Atlantis, Crop circles, Lunar, Mars and the list could go one for pages.

Some people may have only recentl registered for use on ATS but the interest in the subject matter goes far beyond that, which itself is interesting and probably deserving of a thread.

I cant explain why at the age of 14 i had a sudden interest in the UFO, Egypt, Atlantis and so on subject matter. I just did.

With all the research i have done over the years i am no closer to the truth sadly but i wouldnt call myself a Newb to the subject and i'm sure many feel the same;

lol i remember still having dial up access in the late 90's and downloading and printing all the MJ-12 docs with (bogus) written across the pages. FYI: i still thought the only fake part was the (bogus) markings....

Relax.. Grab a cuppa and remember at one time we all were "noobs" .. There will always be dud threads on any site that one visits just as there will be outstanding threads.. Laugh at the absurd and treasure the great...

The ATS NOOBS, why do we bother with them....

We were all Noobs once..... They'll either find their bearings and eventually become either lurkers or valued members...lose interest and leave...or get banned, life goes on. Same as any other forum. (in that regard).

Hey man. i've been around here, maybe 2 years, i consider myself a noob. Just calling out all noobs is pretty foolish of you to say, at one time you were a noob, it takes time. Not all noobs are retards, they are just new, there isn't much you can do about it, and calling them out and trying to get them out of the way is like going to some online caste system.

You can't put down all noobs.

Why do with bother with them?

Ill tell ya, Becouse "they" where just like many of us, I have been here for over 7 years and many of you where new members i seen come and go,

Some at the start made wild claims just to get a reaction.. Test the waters... But you know what?? some of them members today are the best posters on ATS,

They made mistakes they learned we where not just some silly forum where you could swear and talk in text speak.. Something then sparked that this place ATS was something different from many other forums out there,

You dont have to know alot, But being here you learn alot, You have the opinion of people all over the world and from all walks of life and a story from pretty much every angle possible! No stone unturned.

So instead of saying why bother, Take a new member under your wing and show them how to make a post, what they need to do to achieve a good structure here,

those who come to mess around, they wont stay... so just lend out a hand to those "noobs" as you call them.

I challenge you to get in the intros forum and give them a proper welcome from the start and show them what "WE" ATS members are really about.

Me x
