Why does the United States say 'In God We Trust'? The founding fathers were not even religious and believed more in what we now call UFOs than God. How did the United States become a Christian nation when the founding fathers explicitly said that it is not a Christian nation. Christian fundamentalism hijacked the United States.

"Lighthouses are more useful than churches" - Benjamin Franklin

"This world would be the best of all possible worlds if there were no religion in it!" - John Adams

"Christianity is the most perverted system that ever shone on man" - Thomas Jefferson

They probably meant "in gold we trust" but somehow failed to correct this. As a result, future generations are left on the brink of poverty and dispair.

I don't think any of the founders knew what a UFO even was. It is true that many of them were deists.

In God We Trust was first printed on coins during a resurgence of religiosity during the Civil War and later was added to paper currency in the 1950s to help set America apart from those "godless" Communists. In 1956 it was officially adopted as a national "motto" as well. Christians make up the majority religious group in this country and apparently the First Amendment wasn't on their minds when they pushed this idea into and through Congress.

This is a GOOD question.

Benjamin Franklin - of the Jewish Faith

John Adams - of the Jewish Faith

Thomas Jefferson - of the Jewish Faith

Strange, but true.

LOVE the gold comment. LOVE IT.

You do know that there are other languages in the world right? The close relationship between the words "god" and "gold" is not present in most languages.

Why does the United States say 'In God We Trust'?

Contrary to what some members claim, it has nothing to do with mistranslations of gold. On this US Treasury page, everything regarding the motto, including its history, is explained.

The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase received many appeals from devout persons throughout the country, urging that the United States recognize the Deity on United States coins. From Treasury Department records, it appears that the first such appeal came in a letter dated November 13, 1861. It was written to Secretary Chase by Rev. M. R. Watkinson, Minister of the Gospel from Ridleyville, Pennsylvania

Disclaimer: I don’t personally agree the motto should be on our currency, nor that it should be our national motto.

In 1610 a new word was created in the English language. "God" was the new english word.
How did it come into being?

Was it based upon scripture? NO
Was it based upon Hebrew texts? NO
Was it a sound from what we used to called our deity? NO

Somebody out of the blue in 1610 just decided....ahhh let's call our deity "G-O-D".

What did the ancient text say? The deity ORDERED to be called YHWH.

WHY out of the blue was this new word created in 1610? Research it, you will be amazed.

To bring down religion. Man made up the word "god".
en.wikipedia.org...

If there IS a deity, he will not like you calling him that. He ordered everyone to call him YHWH.

This is the 400th anniversary of the new made up word.

Okay, then. America is not a Christian nation. That explains why this nation is so liberal. That explains why there are so many drug addicts, alcoholics, psychotics, psychologists, teen pregnancies, unholy unions, detentions without charges, why so much personal, corporate, and government greed and corruption, the prisons are overflowing, the taxes are going to be raised, innocent men, women, and children are maimed and killed in undeclared wars, and on, and on, and on, add infinitem. So, what god blesses America now?
