Please post pictures of this should you chance upon it again. I'm inclined to go with the Golden Eagle theory on this one, but would love to see photos nonetheless

Lord those are nasty huge birds. I never actually saw one up close until I was driving. I saw it on the side of a country road eating (I'll spare you the details lol). I had to stop my car and throw it in reverse. I was like wth is that? I got close enough to see it well and it's head came up to my window! He was massive! Still gives me the heebeejeebees...

That's a damn biggun too.... bigger than a turkey buzzard, but i am thinking much more rare for these parts. Perhaps too rare. Who knows though... perhaps.

... Good thing you didn't hit it or anything. one day me and my mother were just inside the state line of North Florida and saw some big ass grey bird walk across the road. I mean tall!....LONG legged bird. I think that was an Emu. i don't know if they would naturally be here but i think some people in the south have taken to trying to raise them. It didn't scare us but we just looked at each other like "Am I seeing #?"...

Im glad you have decided to finally try and take a picture. Why not try and take a picture of the bird earlier in the week?

If you get a picture of the bird please post it.

Cheers

As a Native Floridian, just throwing out some alternative ideas. I found some Google images of what I feel you may very well be seeing.

Osprey:

Florida Pelican:

Whooping Crane (Migratory Bird): (which is where I'm leaning the most.)

Sorry, probably should have put "?!" at the end of my post (instead of "??") to hint at my tongue in cheek-ness...I was in fresh disbelief at how crazy that other post became. Again, sorry - new here, learning the ropes

Seriously. They dragged my post about seeing my own "big ass birds" into that discussion and somehow my post got morphed into me reporting I had seen something like a toucan pterosaur eagle mix.
