Leopard shot after tragic 8-hr drama

www.mumbaimirror.com

A quiet town near Pune turned into a battlefield between man and animal as a leopard that had unfortunately strayed in, sparked off panic and attacked several people before being killed by two bullets from a cop's service revolver.

The leopard went on an attacking spree, targeting whoever came its way. Six villagers became the target of its fury.

Leopards aren't noted for their friendliness towards humans, but this level of aggression isn't particularly common either (or else it presumably wouldn't make it to the news).

In one of the bird-death threads there was a post about incresed aggression (more typical of their nesting behaviours, even though it is the wrong season) towards humans from birds.

Could there be something up with other animals as well?

The leopard was probably aggresive because it had ventured into an area with lots of humans and its defensive instincts kicked in. I doubt it's related to the bird deaths.

The Leopard probably roamed to close to the village, most likely looking for food. It didn't sound to me like the Leopard became agressiive until the people became afraid - they ran, and made noise and freaked the guy out. Too bad the beautiful Leopard lost his life.

well i for one am glad its dead.

6 victims is too many.

this isnt one of those cases where its just a matter of bad environment, this cat was on a rampage. had it not been shot it would have continued attacking people.

Remember what mommy and daddy always said about animals, a scared or injured animal is the most dangerous animal of all. A leopard walks into a town gets scared attacks, the town to stop the carnage kills said animal. It sucks that the animal had to die, but it really sucks that 6 people were victimized. This whole incident is comparable to the Arizona shooting, the same people who are calling that kid's action as horrendous, are saying poor cat. I'm sorry if an animal is attacking people the threat will get taken care of.

This animal was not acting normal.
We have a black panther in the area (Spouse and I and others have seen it) but he/they make themselves scarce. For a cat to walk into a village means it had rabies or another illness or it was too old to hunt wild prey.

There was no choice but to shoot the animal. Hopefully a necropsy will determine the cause of its actions.

When six humans are injured by an animal, it's a rampage. When six animals are injured by a human, what is it called? Oh that's right, nothing, because no one cares do to anything about it.

What a disgrace you speciesists are. You know you are bad when you are more hypocritical than racists and sexists.

You know what I think? I think it's sad that it was only six. It's about time for nature to level the score.
