LOUISVILLE, KY. (WDRB Fox 41) -- Sick of door-to-door salesmen interrupting your evenings? The mayor of Jeffersonville is giving you permission to call the cops on them.

Door-to-door salespeople have been a nuisance in some Jeffersonville neighborhoods, and it has become a matter of safety.

If you plan on selling door-to-door in Jeffersonville, you had better turn around and leave. If you do not, you could face charges. "Essentially be looking at probably misdemeanor charges potentially if someone weren't happy with you being there," said Larry Thomas, communications director of Jeffersonville, "whether it be a trespassing charge or something akin to disturbing the peace."

Thomas says in the past, salespeople needed a background check and a permit to go door-to-door. Now, the Jeffersonville Board of Public works will no longer approve those permits.

The city says solicitors have become a safety problem and a nuisance to neighbors. "Quite frequently we get a lot of door-to-door sales," said James Ross, Jeffersonville resident, "and most of it's candy bars -- school programs."

School fundraisers and Girl Scouts are fine, and politicians and religious groups are still okay to go door-to-door. But if a commercial salesperson shows up knocking, feel free to call the cops. "An actual business entity that would've had to come in for a permit, would not have been granted," said Thomas.

I am ashamed of my country sometimes. So, an honest business person, who wants to sell door to door, is pretty muched label a CRIMINAL right off the bat. But POLITICIANS, the largest group of theives and crooks alive, and RELIGIOUS GROUPS, one of the largest groups of theives and crooks alive, are exempt from being stigmatized with the criminal label.

This is small town mentality at its finest, and please, read the article.

This is a snapshot of one small town in the heartland. This type of discriminatory behavior, is part of the reason our country is crumbling before our eyes. Real Live Crooks are exempt, but do not try to eke out your living in these tough times selling door to door in this midwestern small town.

You may just wind up in jail.

The twist to this will be $.
You will need a permit, and that cost $.

$ is what we owe the FED. I said WE. They want you and I to repay it.

So get to work, and make sure to get that permit! China and Japan and the FED bought our bonds, you see? They expect a payout soon from you and me!

Wow... They exempt religious organizations (I assume mostly christians) from this new law, even though christianity has one of the largest track records of mass murder, mass indoctrination, rape, child molestation and financial scams in human history.

How exactly do most of these door-to-door salesmen being school youngsters trying to raise funds constitute a dangerous situation? I suppose that folks thing a 12 year old selling candy bars for the class fund raiser is likely to be a machete wielding maniac.

wow, straight for the christians. im not defending the templars at all, but use some common sense please.
what religious organization is the only KNOWN to go door to door every day of the year? damn sure isnt christians, they are more worried about looking good in front of their pastor and god before trying to "help" their fellow man.
soooooooooo, why christians? jehovas whitnesses man, and people wonder why there is so much religious friction.. im bhuddeist and i can still see that there would be a dozen or so people that would use that same crusade as evidence of evil just because they have some kind of personal quarrel with them

seriously..christians door to door? church wont want that, they want you making more cash for their tax-exempt coffers. good try though. almost sparked some religious debate. furthermore....

op, what does this have to do with indiana?

Read it again.

I have a no soliciting sign on my door. That still doesn't stop them, when they knock on my door I answer it, point to the sign and tell them they have 30 seconds to get off my lawn before I call the cops.

They can be annoying.

This is where I have the problem. I know from other posts, than you live in Louisville. That being said, you must know where Jeffersonville, Indiana is. It is practically an extension of downtown louisville. Louisville isn't exactly a quiet little small town. I work in Jeffersonville, and can walk outside right now and look at downtown Louisville. Its not exactly a quiet little country town. There has been 2 shootings in my parking lot alone.

I like to work with doors open during the summer, and on multiple occasions had people just walk right in trying to sell something(sometimes salesman, but sometimes drugs, and stolen tools), and then will not leave. I believe, if people will not leave when you ask them too, you have every right to call the cops.

Jeffersonville, isnt all bad, but the closer you get to the river, the worse it gets. Its still not as bad as New Albany though.

Jeff is a small town, compared to Louisville and compared to any city. It is not a huge city and there is still a good old boy undercurrent in the area. This makes the city look foolish, I mean, really, the irony is overwhelming, politicians get a pass? Not on my doorstep then. Why bother with this law at all, when the biggest crooks are the ones exemmpt?reply to post by Cheesefacedogbone

I like it when solicitors show up on my doorstep...

Because I can act all sorts of crazy on them....

Magazine sales - "I'm illiterate"

Religious nuts - "I practice black magic"

Salesman of internet services - "I tell them their equipment will be used to spy on me"

Anyone else - "Scream my head off about the demons in my house"

It's a fun game... one they can't play in that town anymore
