felony charges are filed today against a man shot by Bismarck Police after authorities say he pointed a gun at them following a four-hour standoff.
Police have identified the man they say opened fire at a Phoenix-area mall yesterday as 27-year-old Adam Hernandez. Police say Hernandez began shooting after U.S. marshals confronted him regarding several robberies. Moments later, Hernandez fled to a nearby Baja Fresh and fired more shots. He then held off police for three hours before surrendering. During that time, the Chandler Fashion Center was placed on lockdown. Initially, police were not sure if the confrontation with U.S. marshals and the Baja Fresh standoff were linked, but now, they have affirmed Hernandez was responsible for both.
MARION, Iowa — Authorities have released the name of a patient at a Marion care center who shot himself after a two-hour standoff with deputies. The Linn County sheriff's office says 63-year-old William Null, of Marion, died Wednesday morning, about six hours after he shot himself at the Abbe Center for Community Care. The standoff began about 11 p.m. Tuesday after center officials called to report an armed patient. Sheriff Brian Gardner says Null had returned to the facility from a pass allowing him to leave. He says Null went outside and shot himself about 1:30 a.m.
NORTHGLENN, Colo. (AP) - A man who died during a standoff with police in Northglenn has been identified as a man who was wanted on three felony warrants. The Denver Post reports that the Adams County coroner identified the man found dead early Tuesday morning as 40-year-old Matthew Richard Anderson. The coroner says the Northglenn man died after shooting himself. Police say Anderson shot and wounded an officer when police went to his home Monday night to arrest him on felony warrants,including internet sexual exploitation of a child and failing to register as a sex offender.
MOSINEE, Wis (WSAU) Law enforcement officers from several departments were involved in a 6-hour armed stand-off in Mosinee. The suspect is now in custody. He's the same man who barricaded himself inside a room at the Budge Inn with a shotgun last April. The incident started Tuesday night when 58-year-old Donald Welch cut off his G-P-S monitoring bracelet. A probation officer and two Mosinee police officers went to his apartment to arrest him. He refused to come out. They called for back-up, and the stand-off began. The Marathon County SWAT team was called to the scene. Negotiators eventually talked Welch out.
TULSA - A standoff in North Tulsa ended peacefully when the suspect surrendered to police. Officers on scene say the incident began when the 56-year-old suspect, Robert Lee Allgire, began firing off gunshots from his residence near 42nd Place and North Lewis around noon on Wednesday. Police say Allgire had been drinking and was heavily intoxicated. A 41-year-old neighbor came to Allgire's home and removed several guns, police said. Around 3:15 p.m., the neighbor returned, and a fight broke out between he and Allgire. Police say Allgire beat the neighbor in the face with a pistol. The victim fled the resiednce and called 911.
ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A man facing charges including attempted murder after a week-long standoff with police in Newfoundland is expected to return to court today. Leo Crockwell faces 16 charges including five counts of attempted murder after allegedly firing shots at RCMP officers. He has been denied bail. Crockwell had barricaded himself inside his home in Bay Bulls, south of St. John's, before he snuck out last month. He was able to climb out a window without officers noticing. The Mounties have called in Halifax police to review the incident.
A former Taos resident was killed at her home in her Hollywood Boulevard home Tuesday (Jan. 4), the Los Angeles Daily News reported. Enedine Vigil, 33, was reportedly shot several times around 3 a.m. Tuesday. Police have charged Vigil's roommate, Paul Matthew Allee, 32, with the shooting. Police arrested Allee after a four-hour standoff in the apartment building and the alleged murder weapon was collected from the scene, the Daily News reported.
KALISPELL- The man who barricaded himself in a Kalispell Super 8 motel room last Friday for 6 hours has been charged with with kidnapping and criminal endangerment, both are felonies. 35 year old Thomas Mulligan entered into the stand-off with Kalispell Police, who then called in the SWAT team to help.
ALBANY, GA (WALB) –An Albany man is caught in the act, burglarizing an East Albany apartment, sparking a Police standoff. Just before noon Albany Police surrounded the apartment building as the burglar hid in the attic and refused to come out.
KAMIAH - A man was arrested Wednesday morning near Kamiah following a standoff with police that lasted for at least 7 hours.
According to a news release from NPTEC Chairman McCoy Oatman, Nez Perce Tribal Police responded to a report of a gunshot at a residence in eastern Kamiah at around 3 a.m.. They discovered that a man had barricaded himself inside the residence, was intoxicated and had fired a shot, as well as broken out a number of windows.
With the assistance of the Idaho County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, a perimeter was set up around the house. The man surrendered to Tribal officers at around 10 a.m.
BARSTOW • Barstow Police arrested a wanted parolee armed with a compound bow and arrow Tuesday night after a one and a half hour standoff. According to a police report, at 3:47 p.m. Barstow Police Detective Ronan Colleoc received a tip from an informant that wanted parolee Jeffrey Sprowl, 41, was alone at a house in the 1000 block of Pine Street in Barstow. Sprowl’s girlfriend reported that Sprowl beat her, choked, her, and threatened to cut and stab her with a knife during an argument on Nov. 27 when police were called to a domestic disturbance. Sprowl fled the scene and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Officers arrived at the scene on Pine Street and confirmed Sprowl was alone — but Sprowl refused to leave the house. Sprowl stated he was armed with a compound bow and said he had “nothing to lose” and “things would get ugly” if officers attempted to enter the house and arrest him.
A man who had been holding a gun to his head in his Stroud Township home was found dead in the woods behind his house after a standoff that lasted more than two hours Wednesday, Stroud Area Regional Police said.
A man, who authorities say shot and killed a Clark County sheriff’s deputy at Enon Beach on Saturday, was involved in a 26-hour standoff with law enforcement officers in Morgan County in September 2001. That incident occurred at the AEP ReCreation Land in eastern Morgan County.
ODESSA, Texas — A reclusive Odessa man suspected of shooting three law officers and an energy company worker during a 22-hour standoff has pleaded not guilty. Victor White was in the Midland County Jail on Tuesday with bond set at $2 million. The 55-year-old White pleaded not guilty Monday to three counts of attempted capital murder of a peace officer, attempted capital murder, attempted murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
