On January 11, 2007 (UTC), China conducted an anti-satellite (ASAT) test by launching a ground-based weapon against one of its own satellites. On January 15, 2007, Ambassador Randt delivered a demarche to Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister He Yefei. (REFTELs A and B) Then-Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Robert Joseph also demarched the Chinese Ambassador in Washington, D.C. (REFTEL C)

Unreleased documents from WikiLeaks obtained by the Norwegian newspaper Afterposten (Link to original article: www.aftenposten.no...)
shows that China has shot down at least three satelites with ground based launchers, the Chinese themselves claimed that the purpose was peaceful and that the goal was to put pressure on the U.S. for negotiations on the elimination of weapons in outer space.

The documents also states that the US had to manouver several satelites to avoid debris from the explosions and that the ISS (Internationa Space Station) also had to make course changes-

This is quite insane, there is a weapons race in space that the public is unaware of.

Is this maybe an explanation for the military spaceshuttle launch?

IMO there is something to that, with the mysterious "missile" launches, and following "fireballs" seen last november

I like how the US has a planed response for what china may or may not say. so what if we did the same thing in 85 lol

You are right there has been three attempts, resulting in two satelites being shot down, sorry about that.

Pretty wild but not exactly surprising stuff. Before, air-power was the pinnacle of controlling how wars were fought. Control the skies and you can limit ground movement. But now that space holds many satellites used for surveillance (probably even weaponized), to control space means denying the enemy important battlefield information.

america is war mad. so much money to be made.
they did it with Russia. then terrorism.
I remember in the news military space shuttle launch.
but we have herd no more about it.
they are turning space in to a battle front.
one thing that should never never happen.
if china builds a space station on the moon or mares.
they will have land wrights to mine and other things.
and I would believe that america would move a big meteor to use to hit it.
I would not be surprised if a meteor hit earth.
and some where that helps america.

Interesting but not exactly top-secret. There's an article on Wikipedia that says the Chinese admitted this in Jan, 2007.

This test raised concerns in some other countries, partly because China did not publicly confirm whether or not the test had occurred until January 23, 2007 but mainly because of fears that it could prompt or accelerate an "arms race" in space. The EU stated that "...a test of an anti-satellite weapon is inconsistent with international efforts to avert an arms race in outer space and undermines security in outer space.".[7] These concerns were also reflected in public statements from the governments of the United States, Canada, Australia and Japan. According to CNN, global security analysts stated at the time that the test was most likely aimed at the United States

Then of course, the US responded with their own intercept in 2008 under the guise of destroying an out of control satellite which carried potentially lethal hydrazine.

According to the US Government, the primary reason for destroying the satellite was the approximately 1,000 lb (450 kg) of toxic hydrazine fuel contained on board, which could pose health risks to persons in the immediate vicinity of the crash site should any significant amount survive the re-entry.[11] On February 20, 2008, it was announced that the launch was carried out successfully and an explosion was observed consistent with the destruction of the hydrazine fuel tank.[12]

The first one was confirmed and reported on shortly after in 2007, but the second was never confirmed by either China or the US.

However it was reported on.

What I find most interesting is the admittance by the Chinese that this is a ploy to challenge the US on their long silence on the arming of space and how careful the US is in handling these issues.

And where does the military spacecraft launched by the US last year fit in, and what will the Chinese reaction to this be?

Did you read the story before you posted about America being war hungry? The ChiComs were the ones doing the shooting. made quite a mess in space as well.

The Chinese are saving face. That was child's play to the US and Russia capabilities. Consider how long we have been docking all sorts of spacecraft in space..Anyway, our critical military satellites will be armed with, or probably more likely protected, by defensive satellites.

Just as with the release in the last few days of the Chinese stealth fighter. They're messing with that stuff and we have the black triangles. Ain't no comparison.

Listen, all of your critics of our military policies--and we have many bad ones--who's your daddy?
