Hello,
I never thought I would have a reason to post on this site after being a reader/fan for so long; however tonight has been eventful, to say the least. At around 9:00P.M Easter time, I was driving home from work when I get a call from my brother (A strong believer Extraterrestrials) who is yelling "I saw them! I SAW THEM! Three of them, they look like balls of fire, hovering in the sky" I, who is ever the skeptic trying to keep him grounded in facts, reply with something arrogant, when my wife yells "No! Look!". I looked outside to see, what looks like, three balls of orange fire floating in the sky. I pull off and stare into the sky, baffled...trying to calculate and figure out what this could possibly be. They then started moving, extremely quickly...I called my brother and to drive quickly to where I was (about two miles from where he was)...all awhile my wife is videoing it with terrible iPhone quality. I even called my mother to see if she can see them from where she was, which she could.
This is not the first time something like this has happened, my mom, father and uncle saw the exact same thing 20 years ago about 3 miles from where I was tonight. Also, about 3 months ago...in the exact same place I was tonight my brother saw the same thing as well. Only common variables seem to be that the skies are unusually clear, no sounds of nature, nothing...immediately after we sighted them, the skies went cloudy. My brother and I believe to have seen two different sets, his formed a straight line, while mine seemed to form a triangle. I'm not saying that is E.T, but I certainly think it was extremely strange. I wish the video was better quality and I do have a longer one to post, as soon as she can hook her phone up to a computer (It won't allow an email of the full video, only a clip).

Nonetheless, here it is...terrible quality, yes...hopefully you get the idea. You can see one, mostly, but she does tilt the camera to catch another fireball toward the end of it...if you look close, using the building as a reference point, you can see that they are moving, seemingly quickly.

Kinda hard to tell to me from the video clip, could be just about anything though. As always will keep an open mind as I know I myself have seen many things in the night sky that made me go hmmmm.

I'd take into account the fact it is new year's eve. Aside from fireworks, some people make the lanterns and such.

Also if someone is trying to hoax, they know more people are looking towards the sky tonight and there's an increased chance for their display to be seen.

Did they by chance travel side by side at any point? Or seem to move along in a weird fashion such as a zig zag pattern? I too have seen something similar. A flash of light passed overhead (which I would have just dismissed as shooting star) except this light stopped on a dime and reversed direction. When it did it separated into two red balls such as in this video moving along in a zig zag fashion. Blew my mind. I think these are a specific type of UFO. As to what type that is is only peculation however after seeing this I can keep an open mind on these things.

They did just seem to float there and moved along in straight lines correct? If they didn`t do any kind of strange darting or change directions I`ll go with what a post warned us of here on ATS to be ready for. Chinese lanterns.

Is that your wife saying they seem like Fire balls just floating there? Good description actually for Chinese Lanterns.

Yes, the ones my brother saw seemed to form a straight line, i.e side by side. The ones I saw seemed to follow a triangular shape. They moved extremely quickly, hovered for a bit and started moving again. There was no wind, no sound, nothing. It was as if someone had pushed mute on nature.

I do not believe it was Chinese lanterns, for several reasons: 1) They seemed to blink. I saw two, then a third one just popped on. When it lit up, the first one went away, then brightened again. 2) They fell into the same pattern, again and then went on their way. 3) My brother saw 3 others, earlier and heading in opposite directions as the ones I saw. 4) He also saw and described the same thing three months earlier, at a time not near a holiday that would be appropriate for any kind of fireworks or chinese lanterns. Lastly, I wish you could see the area I live in, Chinese Lanterns are not something that is used around my area...

I'm not denying that it wasn't something explainable, I just think it would have to be something besides Chinese Lanterns.

My parents have talked about an extremely similar phenomenon that occurred years earlier, but, somehow, chalked it up to satellites. What I saw, looked a lot like this.

What part of the state was this at???

I'm about two miles from Charleston and I haven't seen anything odd in the sky tonight. Really, the only thing I've seen tonight has been what little bit of stars I can see due to the light pollution here. In fact, its starting to cloud up down here with the approaching rain. The video quality really hurts this video in determining what this exactly is. Could be a mis-identified aircraft or it could be someone shooting off some fireworks.

Then again, I could be wrong

I live between Clarksburg and Fairmont, little tiny town. We had really clear skies here and I just can't believe it was fireworks, the way the it seemed to move. Also, the light went off and then came back on. Then there is the fact that my brother saw the same thing three months ago, I told him he was nuts and moved on...until tonight.

**EDIT***

Sorry to keep mentioning the story my brother told months ago, but it is just a detail that continues to make me question just what I saw tonight.

Grew up in Clarksburg...was that a cell phone video? Woulda been nice if he could have zoomed a bit. Hard to tell, maybe it was one of the FBI's black helicopters?

Could be, but 3 lights? Then 3 more at my brothers house. They could have been lights, though. I have considered it.

The F.B.I place is strange, in itself, though. Just a lot going on up there, bunch of signs everywhere...recently, just buried something, fiber optic cables, presumably.

Awesome! Thanks for the footage. I hope we begin to see more and more of these events. It will leave you with more questions than answers...

Happy New Year!

Hello all,

I am the OP's brother, long time reader, first time poster. I figured I should get on here and give my side of the story, so here goes.

I was walking out to my truck to go down to my mother's house, when I stopped and looked at the sky like I always do when I go out at night, when I noticed how clear it was and actually thought to myself "This would be a good night to star gaze." Just then I noticed three bright fireball like objects in the sky. Now as my brother has mentioned, this is not the first time I have seen these "craft," but this is the first time I have seen a formation of them. They formed a straight line equally spaced apart or so it seemed anyway. My first reaction was to get a witness because around my family I'm pretty much known as a nut when it comes to ET's and conspiracys. So I call my brother to let him know what I was witnessing (which at that time the front lights had dissapeared and reappeared quite a few times) and he gave me the run of the mill skepticism until his wife noticed the fireballs for herself whilst he was driving. So he tells me to meet up with them down the road at a local car lot so I give one more look to the sky and notice the lights had vanished. So I jumped in my truck and as soon as I got to the bottom of my hill I noticed two more lights in the distance that were stationary (much like the one I saw a few months earlier which I will touch on a little later in the post), so I raced his way all the while they just sat in the sky like fire. When I got there he, his wife, and myself just stared at the lights in amazement for about ten minutes or so until they to, dissapeared. This whole thing was sort of deja vu for me, as this is the exact location that I had my previous sighting.

So here is what happened about three months ago. My girlfriend and I were on our way back from the mall and we were driving home when I noticed a huge bright light. At first, I thought it was a street light until I got close enough to see how high is was in the sky. It was traveling very fast and I pulled off the road as soon as I could to get a better look (at that very car lot I was at tonight.) When I stopped, so did the light, and I got out of my truck and we just stared at it for several minutes, which felt like a nano second we were so excited. Then as we were watching it, it took off again at a high speed, so we jumped back in the truck and I attempted to follow it, but as quickly as it came, it was gone.

So needless to say I am baffled at all the recent activity around here. I mean, there is nothing here, but maybe that's the point of it. The funny part is the locals here are so oblivious to everything that I am sure that tonight my brother, his wife, and I are the only ones who even noticed the huge lights in the sky.

Well that's all for now, just keep looking to the skies because you never know what you might see.

What most people do not know is that West Virginia has been a hotbed for ufo activity for years. I was told one story by my father that two Dunbar policemen reportedly saw a ufo hovering over the Dunbar Toll Bridge back in the early 1960s. He told me that these two officers watched the thing just set over the bridge for a good five to ten minutes before it took off. He also told me of an encounter him and a couple of friends had back around 1976 - 77.

He and a few freinds of his were out driving around Dunbar, Institute, and South Charleston one night. They were on State Route 25 when my did just happened to notice a pair of lights over WCHS Radio's four towers on the hill across the river in Jefferson. So they stopped and watched the lights for a few minutes thinking that it was the engineer going from tower to tower and checking on the transmitters at the bottom of each tower. After these few minutes they were convinced that the engineer was there until what happened next.........

When my dad noticed that these lights were at the tower #1, he knew that the engineer's car would have to come down off the hill on Hampshire Drive. This is the road that takes you to the access road for the towers. He noticed that these lights had went behind the hill and had started to come off the hill instead of going down the hill on the road. When he saw the three lights in the shape of a triangle, that is when he hit the gas to see if he could get away from the object. They pulled into the Peace Goods lot off of Sixteenth Street thinking that the object would fly away. Well, when they stopped in the car, it stopped with them. When they started driving again, here was this object following close behind.

As they were approaching the east end of Dunbar, whatever this thing was took a nosedive towards the radio tower at the WV State Police Headquarters in South Charleston. At first, they thought about going over to SOuth Charleston to see what was going on. Then they decided to nix the idea of trying to find this thing. As they were heading south on WV25 between Dunbar and the Charleston City Limits. This object came up out of the Kanawha River just off the north end of Blaine Island. When it came out of the water, it turned toward the east and went over the hill in North Charleston.
The north end of the island is on the left.

Since then, it has never been seen.

Sheeze my Mom and I used to go UFO hunting all the time, some of the best experiences of our lives. We were just never afraid, I guess I wasn't a CTer yet, lol. Innocence attracts ignorance detracts.

I know a load of people are gonna jump at me for this, but.........it was a Chinese lantern, I went up slag bank (a man made hill from a slag quarry in my town) to watch all the fireworks all over town (and Scotland, I have a great view over the Solway firth) and there was dozens of them being set off all over town, the paranoid ones would have thought it was an invasion! . I actually chuckled at the time and asked myself how many threads would be made tonight over the damn things!

Happy new year.

EDIT: Sorry, my point was, they will have been set off all over the globe tonight, trust me, it's a lantern.

Very interesting indeed. I've heard some stories from around here as well, but for some reason your story reminded me of an experience I had when I was younger, maybe someone could shed some light on what may have been the cause...

I was around twelve at the time I do believe and I lived with my grandparents, it was during the spring equinox and I was awake with my grandfather, who in all actuality was a very interesting, almost enlightened man himself (but that's a whole other story on some of the things he encountered and told me). We were sitting in my downstairs kitchen and he was drinking Miller's beer in can form. We sat and talked, told stories, and all that good stuff while I tried to stand the egg on end, which might I add, never happened. All the sudden his cans started scooting across the table... Not like a pulling motion, but more of a pushing motion, They moved very ridgid and jerky. This event didn't startle him at all, he just smiled and we started trying various experiments with the cans.... You could set one on the other and it would still move, and more than one would move at a time, but not all of them at once. They would stop for no reason, and move for no reason. This went on for quite awhile, I want to say at least an hour or so, until I eventually got tired and went back upstairs and went to sleep.

As I said, this has nothing to do with the OP I just happened to think about it when you mentioned your grandfather and stories he told you. Now I have no idea what may have caused this incident to happen, I have looked online and researched and came up with nothing. Like I said, my grandfather wasn't startled or concerned, I just remember him saying to me that the universe was an endless possibility of possibilities, or something to that effect, and I actually have no idea why I remember that because I remember very few thing people have said to me in the past.

Very strange things happen around here indeed. My grandfather used to tell peices of stories and drop hints at things but alas he died before I was old enough to really grasp what he was trying to say. He was very intelligent and open minded when it came to alternative topics. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and always hinted at their secrets but would never really tell any of them to me.

Strange times.. But I'm off for the night, happy new years.

What direction in the sky did you happen to see this in? I ask because I live about 30 miles south of there, and I saw something very similar 2 nights ago, around 7:30, towards the northeast. It was very strange, however I think what I saw may have been the ISS passing by.

It was an extremely bright light, traveling smoothly across the sky, not blinking at all like an airplane would. I watched it for about 20 seconds before it just went out. At least that's what I assume it to have been, but I have seen something MUCH crazier than that.

On October 31st of this year, around a quarter after 6, just as the sun was going down, I was walking down the road. I happened to look towards the west, and a very shiny object seemed to just, well, "fall" out of the sky, and then it seemed to stop just above the horizon. I watched for a minute or two, it didn't move. Ran back into the house, grabbed the binoculars, came back out to get a closer look. When I looked through the binoculars, I couldn't quite make out what the object was, but I then saw 3 black, military looking helicopters flying right towards it. I watched the helicopters break formation, apparently trying to surround the object, but before they could it just took off. It was a strange sight to say the least.

So, yeah, there are some strange things that happen around here. And please, chinese lanterns? If you lived in these parts of WV, you would know better. To the OP and brother, I say keep watching the skies, because whether it is extra-terrestrial or military, there are some interesting things going on here.
