If there would be hardware conflict, the card wouldn't probably play, at all.
Before taking it back, (if you can), try it in another PC. If it works fine, you got some software conflict on your PC. (that's what is sounds like
to me).
HAve you checked your "Device Manager" for conflict? (Hardware tab, in System-Properties)
Have you seen if anything (software, spyware, viruses, etc...) was eating all the ressources on your PC? (task manager)
Also... what kind of sound card have memory on it? (do you have a link to what you bought, or something similar, on the web? name, model, etc... just
curious, never heard of sound card with x ammount of megs)
