I found binary code interpenetration of EXPLORATIONOGHUMANITY intriguing.
My thought is from a medical prospective. If this is meant to say Exploration on Humanity, it would be like me saying Exploratory surGery on a patient. A rather chilling perspective.
And this exploratory surgery is for what? Advancement of Urth (Earth).

You know what's weird though. This is a point that has been brought up before, I should think. The message is in English, right, but to me the translation of the message looks like it's not meant for our eyes, like it's a message between the same species. And what I'm not getting is why is it even in English anyway? Do Extra-Terrestrials speak English?

I can always remember Jim Penniston mentioning the Glyphs on the craft, so i wonder if maybe the symbols and binary could be related. The glyphs are certainly interesting, and in UFO documentary "I Know What I Saw" (highly recommended no BS UFO documentary) the glyphs were touched on by a symbolist I beleive; his conclusion was quite interesting.

Link has been provided (anyone know how to embed images??)

And also a link to the video about the symbols. At about 3:40 if you want to skip to the good bit!

I do note that what is said in the video, that the craft would probably have been a utility vehicle, used for surveying, would tie it to the current binary translation nicely. I also noticed Jim Penniston pulled out the now infamous notepad in the video! Pity he didnt flick through it to see if we could catch any of the supposed binary!

Oh by the way, there is another thread on this board about the same subject. But the discussion doesn't seem to be as productive. I wonder why the mods haven't shut the thread down yet?

Didnt we send a disk on a satellite which explained where we were and contained DNA and some info in Binary?

Im not sure about this, the History Channel could have carbon dated it to prove it was written 30 years ago but then that would be a bit rude like saying he is lying.

Neat story. I didn't know about the binary code details.

Interesting.
Now you know.

Yep, the Golden Record onboard the Voyager 1 & 2 spacecrafts used binary numbers to describe certain aspects of the disc, such as the images stored on it.

The picture is made from this signal, which traces the picture as a series of vertical lines, similar to ordinary television (in which the picture is a series of horizontal lines). Picture lines 1, 2 and 3 are noted in binary numbers, and the duration of one of the "picture lines," about 8 milliseconds, is noted.

I'm about the same age as this dude, I'm blue collar and I first found out about binary code in the mid eighties when home computers came out. But as a kid in the 1960s, my dad brought home ticka tape for us kids to play with and it had noughts and ones punched out of it. Would I put two and two together? Balance of probabilities; no I wouldn't. Am I worried about my pension and could I use some extra cash? You bet!

I often get migraines and when I try and sleep through them I get a lot of random mathematics punching away in my brain, I can't remember any of it when I awake though, how did he memorise all that stuff? Did it come out as some form of automatic writing?

Why binary? Maybe the message wasn't meant for him, maybe he was supposed to pass it on to someone above?

Ever use any of those bablefish translators and turn english into greek and back to english= result: gobbledygook, why not just implant a message in the form of an image? What does this message mean? Global warming turning around the gulf stream at these coordinates? The world will suffer from another flood?

This story reminds me of the Ilkley Moor UFO where supposedly a police man got a message for man kind, but is keeping it for himself!,

I didn't noticed that, nice catch!

One thing I noticed is that the sequences of 0s and 1s are more or less grouped, like we do when we read a phone number and group the digits in a way that's easier for us to remember. We usually do that when we are repeating what someone is telling us (and that person is doing the grouping) or when we are retrieving that information from memory, but not when we are copying something from an image, unless that grouping already happens in the image.

One strange thing is that with those four blocks we get almost the whole message, so what does the rest of the pages have?

I tried a different approach, using this image:

From that image I "extracted" this:
00011000000111001001101000011001000110101001100
011001100010011001100110001001100100011011000111
011100101010001001001001010011100011010100110010
010001101010011001100110010010011100011000100110
1001000110110001110010101011101000011010011110100
100101010101001111010101010101001101010001100100
100000101001110010001010101010001000001010100100
1100100000101001110000111001000100100001110001011

Those 0s and 1s resulted into this:

šL
f&f&FÇ
r¢IN52
F¦fIÆ&
‘±Êºz
•SÕTÔd
‚œŠ¨‚¤
È)Ñ!Å

Which, after adding some zeros to the left until I got a more meaningful result, resulted into this:

09425
13126
r¢IN52
532N1
69WCO
UOUSQ$
ANETAR
AN‰

The above text looks like fragments of the whole message, but as I used the same order in which the lines appear on the screen, could it mean that the resulting message, as presented, was the result of some reordering?

Another thing I thought about, was there any redundancy in the message, with at least some parts repeated?

I used the babelfish site once, just for laughs really. I translated a paragraph into Russian, then back to English. The results were a humorous mish mash of non-sensical English 'sentences'

Only thing with binary is, surely it would be a bit more precise if coded, and then decoded. I guess the fact that the strings of text are even there in the first place could be classed as more than a coincidence. But then again, so would the appearance of binary numbers thirty years later.

Dunno if any of you guys visited the Rendelsham incident site. The speakers and guest speakers, although they got grilled a little bit, were more or less treated like mini celebs, many people shaking hands and taking pictures and what not. Never underestimate a human beings need to be noticed sometimes.

While the documentary did not refer to any forensic tests, Dave Hodrien (Birmingham UFO Group Chairman/Investigator) attended the press conference referred to in the OP and reported on the Ufologyinuk email discussion list on 29th December 2010 that "Plus someone has tested the note paper and ink to prove he wrote it back in 1980".

Dave Hodrien's summary of that press conference has appeared on several forums and I thought I'd highlighted the reference to the purported forensic tests - but frankly the discussion of this purported message has become so fragmented on the Internet that I've lost track of what I've already posted on the various forums and the email discussion lists that are duplicating efforts in relation to this issue (and many other issues within ufology).

The fragmentation of the debate in the relation to this issue is pretty typical of discussion of UFO related issues, so it shouldn't be surprising to me. However, I still find it a bit depressing. So much wasted time and effort for so little result, in a field where time and effort are precious resources...

All the best,

Isaac

The problem with that is that I can do the same thing, I still have some paper and ballpoint pens from the 80s (I am one of those people that do not throw things away if they may have some future use
), so if I wrote something with them it would be dated as being from the 80s.

Block 1 also had a simple mistake. There was and extra 0. After deleting it and all of the other bits shift we get more of the message but there are still characters that i can not bring into light without serious modification of the original binary code.

Block 1:

01010101 00111101 01010101 01001101 01000110 01001111 01010010 01010000 01001100 01000001 01001110 01000101 01010100 01000000 10101001 00101100 10100000 10100010 00101011 00100000 10100111 00001110 01000100 10000111 00100110 00100011 00110110 00110101 00110101 00110011 00110011 00111011 - U=UMFORPLANET@©, ¢+ §D‡

BECOMES:

01010101 00111101 01010101 01001101 01000110 01001111 01010010 01010000 01001100 01000001 01001110 01000101 01010100 01000001 01010010 01011001 01000001 01000100 01010110 01000001 01001110 00011100 10001001 00001110 01001100 01000110 01101100 01101010 01101010 01100110 01100110 0111011 - U=UMFORPLANETARYADVAN‰LFljjff;

There is also another problem.. After deleting the extra "0" everything shifts over and brings many more characters into light but it leaves one of the characters with only 7 bits..

Maybe its 6 physical pages, counting front and back as one page or 12 pages counting front and back as separate pages..

A reasonable suggestion - but I think the different numbers highlight the absence of some pretty basic information at the moment.

That case is not a good comparison (they had two different samples, an old and a new, and the new one was written just some weeks before the tests), but thanks for that link.

The yellow digits are the ones I removed to get the result, maybe I wasn't clear about that or maybe I mixed things up.

Resulting text:

You actually removed the wrong 2 0's.. I removed a different set of "00" and got this...

01000110 01001111 01010101 01010010 01010100 01001000 01000011 01001111 01001111 01000100 01001001 00001110 01000001 01010100 01000101 01000011 01001111 01010011 10010101 00010010 01010011 10010101 01010011 11010101 00010101 01010100 01010100 00001110
